Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michel Therrien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michel Therrien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Diaz!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Therrien swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Diaz counters by clinching up.
Therrien tries for a takedown but Diaz manages to get underhooks.
Therrien has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Diaz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diaz cracks the inside of Therrien's front leg.
Therrien shoots in but Diaz avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michel Therrien. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Therrien tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Therrien somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Therrien avoids it.
With the fighters up against the cage, Diaz throws an elbow but misses.
Therrien is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Diaz is defending well.

Therrien is working for takedown but Diaz is calmly controlling the position for now.
Therrien is trying to drag Diaz to the mat but Diaz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The referee calls for Diaz to work.

Therrien is looking to work some ground and pound but Diaz has wrist control.

Therrien got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Therrien has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Therrien throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Therrien decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Therrien shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Therrien tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Therrien is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.

Diaz is working for takedown but Therrien is calmly controlling the position for now.
Therrien goes for a takedown attempt but Diaz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Therrien fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diaz avoids it really well and circles away.

Diaz fails with the takedown.
Therrien displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz.

Diaz clinches up against the cage.
Diaz stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Therrien drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Diaz wants to sweep here but Therrien controlling him for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Therrien accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Diaz manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Therrien has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Diaz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Therrien wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Diaz is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Therrien pinned against the cage. Therrien gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Diaz swings for the body but Therrien moves out of range.
Therrien looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Diaz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Therrien, pushing him back against the cage.

Therrien drops back, looking for a kneebar! Diaz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Diaz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Diaz!

Therrien seems a little lost for a moment, as Diaz dominates the positioning.
Diaz works to advance to full mount. Therrien defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz has hold of Therrien's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Therrien manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Therrien is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Therrien tries to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.
Diaz controlling the position easily from mount.
Therrien tries to reverse the position but Diaz maintains control.

Diaz throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Diaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Diaz prevents Therrien from getting the reversal.

Diaz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Diaz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Therrien is trying desperately to improve position.

Diaz wants to take Therrien's back here but Therrien is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Therrien gets back to half guard.
Diaz is taking a breather. Therrien says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Therrien wants to get back to full guard.
Therrien wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy.
Diaz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Therrien is trying to control but can't.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Diaz in particular looking to stall.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches.
Therrien has Diaz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Diaz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Diaz manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Therrien sprawls well. Therrien wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Therrien stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Therrien wants it to stay on the feet.

Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
