PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gary Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Noah Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jones's choice of entrance music: Barrels of Whiskey. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Noah Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Noah Jones!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Johnson.
Jones has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.
Johnson throws a head kick that Jones semi-blocks.
Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.

and Johnson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jones thinking.
Johnson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Johnson's guard.
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jones is controlling him.

Johnson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Jones keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.

Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jones winds up and cracks Johnson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jones working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Johnson is trying to maintain the position but Jones is very close to passing his half guard.

Noah Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Johnson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jones is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Johnson is looking to wear down Jones with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
