PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dante Olivier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and El Indio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that El Indio was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dante Olivier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, El Indio!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Indio moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Olivier tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Indio was well out of range. Poor timing from Olivier.
Indio lands a head kick. Olivier smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Indio throws a lazy body kick

so Olivier counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Indio wants to stand up but Olivier is controlling him.

Indio throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Olivier gets to his feet - Indio follows without any prompting.
El Indio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Indio lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Indio throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Olivier's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Indio gets caught napping as Olivier dives in and scores a takedown. Indio manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Indio is looking for a triangle but Olivier pushes his legs off easily.

Olivier scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Olivier is working Indio over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Olivier is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Indio working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Olivier doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Olivier manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Indio really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Olivier. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Olivier uses his free foot to push down on Indio's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Indio.

Olivier postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Indio looks a forlorn figure.
Olivier tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Indio tries to buck Olivier off but he can't manage it.

Olivier looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Olivier cracks Indio with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Olivier looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Indio really wants to buck Olivier off and get back to his feet.
Olivier takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Indio takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Indio wants to get back to his feet.
Olivier content just to control the position here.
Olivier won't let Indio get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Olivier wants to finish this one by submission but Indio is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Olivier.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Olivier cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Indio is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Olivier has taken his back!
Indio is trying to stand back up.

Olivier is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Indio defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dante Olivier dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Olivier rushes Indio and presses him up against the cage.
Indio is trying to push Olivier away but Olivier has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Indio wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Olivier has him pressed against the cage.
Olivier prevents Indio from breaking the clinch.
Olivier will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Indio up against the cage.

Olivier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Indio tries to land a front kick but Olivier steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Olivier went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Olivier closes the distance and clinches.

Indio wants to break the clinch but can't.
Indio tries to break the clinch but Olivier is controlling the position.

Olivier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Indio lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Olivier drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Dante Olivier overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Olivier lands a nice forearm strike.
Indio wants to get back to his feet but Olivier drags him back down.
A lull in the action here as Olivier stalls from top position.
Indio is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Olivier is controlling him well.

Olivier is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Indio can do to turn this around?
Olivier in side control lands a decent elbow.
Indio tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Olivier is hanging on to Indio's back as he tries to escape.
Olivier just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Indio is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Olivier.

Olivier has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Indio.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
I would not like to be Indio right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Indio throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Olivier.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Indio!

Olivier closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Olivier lands in his opponent's guard.
Olivier slips nicely into half guard.

Indio has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Montreal. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Olivier throws a push kick but Indio slaps the foot to one side.
Indio is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Indio walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Olivier checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Olivier feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Indio had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Olivier defends it easily.
Olivier is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Olivier seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Indio for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Olivier drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Olivier scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Indio to see if he's OK.
Indio is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Olivier has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Indio is looking for a sweep.

Indio wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Olivier has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Indio's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Indio is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Olivier!
