PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cobra Commander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Commander comes to the cage accompanied by Cobra Theme. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cobra Commander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Butler!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Butler bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Commander takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Commander prevents Butler from improving position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Commander is looking to regain half guard here but Butler keeps moving and retains side control.

Butler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Butler staying calm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Butler looks up at the clock and then as Commander takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Butler smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Butler wants to control but Commander is keeping him busy.
Commander is looking to regain half guard here but Butler keeps moving and retains side control.

Butler in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Butler working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Commander is keen to just control but Butler is a slippery customer.
Commander wants to pass to mount but Butler is defending the position.

Commander is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Butler has managed to free his arm - good work.
Still in half guard, Commander seems content to control.
Butler is looking to control Commander's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Butler avoid being mounted?

Commander is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Butler sees it coming and defends easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Butler regains full guard. Nicely done.
Commander preventing the sweep.
Butler has his hands on Commander's head, controlling the position.

Butler lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Commander looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Commander manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Butler manages to get himself to full guard.

Commander shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Butler defends it nicely.
Butler changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Commander fails with a takedown attempt.
Butler has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Butler throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Commander's waist but Commander gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Butler off to one side.
Commander shoots in but no luck this time.

Nice takedown defense from Butler. No joy for Commander on that attempt.

Butler feints and as Commander raises his hands in defense, Butler changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Commander is looking for a triangle but Butler pushes his legs off easily.
Butler is working Commander over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Commander is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Butler pulls his head out easily.

Butler lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Butler takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Butler is trying to work for a kimura but Commander is defending well.
Butler working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Commander is trying to get back to full guard.

Commander is staying active underneath Butler, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Butler seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Commander is looking for a sweep. Butler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Butler slips a nice elbow through Commander's hands, connecting with Commander's forehead.

Commander has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Butler is working away from the top position though.
Butler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Commander keeps working.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Butler shoots for a double leg takedown but Commander sprawls well. He's pushed Butler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Commander keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Commander looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Butler is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Commander's half guard.

Jake Butler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Cobra Commander showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Butler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
