PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eusebio Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Eusebio Marsh has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eusebio Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Chris Dean and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roberts closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Roberts happy to just control the position for now.
Roberts working the head with strikes.
Marsh defending against the ground and pound.

Roberts is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marsh has escaped the position, nice work there.

Roberts tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roberts has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marsh being controlled for a moment.

Marsh tries to improve position but can't.
The strikes coming from Roberts are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Roberts looking to control but instead Marsh has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Marsh wants to improve his position but Roberts is controlling well.
Marsh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Roberts wants to stand up but Marsh has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Roberts sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Marsh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Marsh flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Roberts gets the takedown into side control.
Marsh is working to avoid the ground and pound but Roberts connects with a decent elbow.

Roberts stands up.

Roberts drives through with a takedown into guard.
Roberts's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Roberts decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Marsh is defended easily by Roberts.

Roberts moves into the clinch.

Roberts successfully pulls guard.
Marsh won't allow Roberts to sweep him here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roberts utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Roberts has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Marsh has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Roberts dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Roberts throws a series of punches but Marsh avoids them all with ease.
Jake Roberts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roberts feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jake Roberts has got the better of the ground game so far.
Roberts postures up.
Roberts wants to control from the top but Marsh keeps moving.
Roberts is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roberts is continuing to stall.
Marsh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Marsh is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Roberts is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Roberts drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Roberts works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Roberts is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Marsh is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roberts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Roberts is taking a breather. Marsh says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Roberts working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Roberts not doing much here.

Roberts wants to free his trapped foot but Marsh is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Roberts content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marsh tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roberts swivels and escapes.

Roberts looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Marsh is trying to hold Roberts in close to prevent damage but Roberts has managed to pass into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Roberts decides to stand up.
Marsh checks a low kick from Roberts.

Roberts dives in and scores a takedown into Marsh's guard.
Roberts engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Roberts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Roberts.

Marsh bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Roberts has taken the fight to the clinch.

Roberts wants to stand and escape but Marsh is having none of it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roberts is on top in guard.

Roberts wanted to stand there but Marsh had control of the position.
Roberts looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roberts controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Roberts trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Roberts won't allow Marsh to sweep him here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Marsh is working hard here to advance position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Roberts scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Roberts staying calm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roberts trying to control the action but Marsh is working from the bottom.
Roberts tries to move to mount but Marsh blocks the move with his legs.
Roberts is working Marsh over with some ground and pound from side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Marsh is rocked!
Roberts controlling the position easily from mount.
Oh Marsh is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Roberts is landing with some decent strikes but Marsh is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Roberts postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Marsh in real trouble here! The ref calls for Marsh to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Roberts!
