Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ruslan Khabilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmie Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ruslan Khabilov has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ruslan Khabilov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmie Connor!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khabilov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Connor to the mat! Connor manages to get full guard.

Khabilov gets to his feet. Connor looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Khabilov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Connor moves away.
Khabilov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Connor circles away.

Khabilov closes the distance and clinches.
Khabilov fails to pull guard.
Khabilov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Connor walks away with a smile on his face. Khabilov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruslan Khabilov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Connor dives in and grabs Khabilov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Khabilov pushes down on Connor's head and hops out.
No luck for Connor with that takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Connor.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khabilov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Khabilov wants it to stay on the feet.

Khabilov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Connor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Khabilov tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Connor counters with a stiff right hand.
Connor shoots in for a takedown but Khabilov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Connor will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Connor closes the distance and clinches up with Khabilov, looking for a takedown. Connor pushes Khabilov against the cage but Khabilov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A bit of stalling here from Connor.
Khabilov jumps guard but Connor stands there with Khabilov around his waist. Khabilov gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Connor jumps guard and drags Khabilov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Khabilov wants to control from the top but Connor keeps moving.

Connor has his foot on Khabilov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Khabilov works his way back into a safe position though.

Khabilov drops back looking for a leg! Connor is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Connor manages to kick Khabilov off! Khabilov jumps back into Connor's guard.

Khabilov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Connor is just riding it out for now. Khabilov eventually gives up the hold.

Khabilov is trying to control the action in half guard but Connor is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Khabilov is looking to advance position but Connor won't allow it.
Khabilov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Khabilov is thwarting Connor's attempts to control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khabilov trying to control the action but Connor is working from the bottom.
Khabilov prevents Connor from standing back up.

Connor looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Khabilov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Khabilov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Connor holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Khabilov tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Connor just stands there and leans against the cage.
Khabilov trying to control the position but instead, Connor has worked for underhooks and has pushed Khabilov into the cage.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Khabilov connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Connor's hands.

Khabilov clinches.

Connor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Connor leaves Khabilov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Khabilov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Connor can do to turn this around?
Khabilov throws the left hand but Connor avoids the punch easily.
As Khabilov backs off Connor throws a huge counter combo but Khabilov manages to avoid it all.
Khabilov shoots for a takedown but Connor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Connor has taken the fight to the clinch.

Connor pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Connor closes the distance and pushes Khabilov back into the cage.
Khabilov has Connor pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Connor manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Khabilov wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Connor jumps guard but Khabilov stands there with Connor around his waist. Connor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

and Khabilov counters with a left to the body.

Connor closes the distance and pushes Khabilov back into the cage.
Khabilov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Connor is defending well for now.

Khabilov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Khabilov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Khabilov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Khabilov looking for a sweep. Not yet Khabilov, not yet.
Connor looking to sit in guard and control but Khabilov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Ruslan Khabilov will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Connor dives in for a single leg takedown but Khabilov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Connor defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Khabilov.
Connor throws a head kick that misses.
Connor tries to clinch up.
Khabilov drops down looking for a counter takedown but Connor sprawls and moves away.
Khabilov shoots in but no luck this time.

Khabilov gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Khabilov struggles to land a body shot inside as Connor controls his hands.

Khabilov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Khabilov lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Connor holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Connor is looking to break free of the clinch but Khabilov has double underhooks.
Khabilov is trying to drag Connor to the mat but Connor just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Khabilov stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Khabilov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Connor tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Khabilov trying to control but Connor is working from the bottom.
Ruslan Khabilov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Connor has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Khabilov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Connor is fending him off so far but Khabilov persists. Nope, Connor circles away and we're back to standing.
Khabilov fails with the takedown.
Connor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Khabilov gets tackled into the cage by Connor. Connor maintains the clinch.

Khabilov pulls guard effortlessly.
Connor not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Connor decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Connor instigates a clinch.
Ruslan Khabilov has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Connor has Khabilov pressed against the cage.

Khabilov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Connor keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Connor thinks about the counter body kick.
Connor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Khabilov tries to avoid it but Connor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Khabilov to the ground. Khabilov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
