The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drake throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McConnell was covering up waiting for the punch and Drake finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Drake stands up and waves to McConnell to follow him.
Drake shoots and misses

and McConnell counters by clinching up.

McConnell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Drake with that takedown attempt.
Drake gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and McConnell counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephen Drake. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McConnell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Drake wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Drake has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but McConnell regains guard immediately.

McConnell pushes Drake off and gets back to his feet.

Drake is trying to pull guard but McConnell turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

McConnell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from McConnell as Drake shoots in.
Drake has a takedown stuffed.
McConnell unleashes a big counter combination but Drake bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Drake shoots in looking for a takedown but McConnell manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Drake's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Drake is breathing heavily.
McConnell throws a head kick but Drake moves out of range.
Drake looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Drake gets tackled into the cage by McConnell. McConnell maintains the clinch.
Drake has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Drake tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McConnell just stands there and leans against the cage.
Drake fails to pull the fight into his guard.

McConnell manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Drake or perhaps it was just good defense by McConnell, which made it look bad.

McConnell moves into the clinch successfully.

McConnell lands with a short shot to the head.

McConnell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

McConnell has taken the fight to the clinch.

Drake tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McConnell just stands there and leans against the cage.

McConnell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Drake goes for a double leg but McConnell avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McConnell continues to drive forward.
McConnell lands with a good body shot.
Drake takes a shot right to the bread basket.

McConnell closes the distance and clinches.

Still in the clinch, McConnell scores with a nice short uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McConnell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

McConnell has Drake up against the cage in a clinch.

Drake manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davy McConnell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

McConnell pulls out of a head kick attempt.

McConnell darts in and clinches Drake up against the cage.
McConnell lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Drake is rocked!
Drake is trying to force a seperation but McConnell has the dominant position.
Oh Drake is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McConnell has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Drake - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from McConnell, and another! Drake is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!
