Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luis Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ian Thornton!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thornton throws a combination that misses
and Gonzales counters with a slapping leg kick.
Gonzales misses with a double jab.
Thornton looks to land a combination but Gonzales avoids it well.
Thornton has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gonzales finds it's way round the side to connect with Thornton's head.
Gonzales ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Thornton walks into a left hand.


It looks like Ian Thornton has been cut.
Gonzales darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Thornton throws out a powerful jab.
Thornton closes the distance looking to clinch

and Gonzales counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Thornton down! Gonzales is looking to finish but Thornton is intelligently defending himself.


Thornton is rocked!
Thornton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gonzales drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Thornton dives on top into guard.

Gonzales throws his legs up looking for a submission but Thornton uses it to pass to side control.

Thornton misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Gonzales tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Thornton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Thornton sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gonzales is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Gonzales tries to bench press Thornton off him but Thornton keeps the position.
Thornton working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Thornton throws a series of punches but Gonzales moves out of range.
Thornton throws a right and a left that Gonzales avoids nicely.

and Gonzales counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Gonzales slips a jab and a cross from Thornton.
Gonzales comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gonzales keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Ian Thornton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzales lands a slapping body shot.
Gonzales scores with a nice strike.
Thornton walks straight into a right hand from Gonzales - that's dropped him! Gonzales jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Thornton from any more punishment! Thornton complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Luis Gonzales!
Luis Gonzales decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
In defeat, Ian Thornton stepped up to the mic, saying 'Next time, Victory will taste sweet'.
