PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bang Pitung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Midget (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pitung comes to the cage accompanied by Seringai - Taring. The key to victory for Bang Pitung has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bang Pitung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Midget!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Midget.
Pitung lands with a straight right. Midget didn't see that one coming.
Pitung misses the body punch

and Midget counters with a takedown into side control.
Pitung has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Pitung tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Midget wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pitung striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Who's going to make the next move?

Midget tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Midget has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Midget goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Pitung rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Midget's guard! Nice work there by Pitung!

Pitung got a little sloppy there for a moment and Midget has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pitung has managed to get both his arms back between Midget's legs - danger averted.

Midget working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pitung doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pitung manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Midget isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Pitung stacks Midget on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Pitung!
Pitung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Midget keeps working.

Pitung content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Pitung throws an elbow but Midget slips to the side and avoids it well.
Pitung will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pitung in side control, throwing shots but Midget defends.
Midget told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Pitung has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Pitung throws a good cross that connects.

Pitung throws a shot from downtown. Midget moves away and avoids it.
Midget changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Midget checks a leg kick.
And Midget tries to counter it with a takedown but Pitung pushes his down on his head and steps out.

and Midget counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Midget.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pitung is on top in guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The crowd cheers as Pitung lands an impressive looking overhand right. Midget doesn't seem phased though.

Pitung is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Pitung is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Midget.
And Midget tries to counter it with a takedown but Pitung pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Pitung lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Pitung jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Pitung connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and Pitung counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Midget thinking.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pitung is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Midget can do to turn this around?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Midget changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pitung tries to avoid it but Midget manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pitung to the ground. Pitung escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Pitung decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Well Pitung has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
