PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shelby Wyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spike Gibson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gibson has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Spike Gibson will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shelby Wyatt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Spike Gibson !
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A head kick misses from Wyatt.
Gibson looks winded!

Wyatt clinches up against the cage.
Wyatt prevents Gibson from breaking the clinch.
Gibson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Wyatt gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gibson tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Wyatt manages to move to mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Wyatt has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wyatt seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gibson for as long as he can get away with.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shelby Wyatt dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wyatt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gibson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Wyatt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wyatt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Wyatt.
Gibson is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gibson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Wyatt is taking a breather. Gibson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Wyatt decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Wyatt has taken the fight to the clinch.

Wyatt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Gibson gets caught flat footed, as Wyatt shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Wyatt distracts Gibson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Wyatt stays in close to Gibson 's body and controls the position.

Gibson is working an open guard so Wyatt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Shelby Wyatt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wyatt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wyatt content to stall in guard here.

Wyatt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gibson , up you get!

Wyatt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gibson is looking to get back to is feet but Wyatt passes into side control.

Wyatt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gibson blocks a head kick by Wyatt.

Wyatt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wyatt lands in his opponent's guard.

Wyatt cracks Gibson with a solid left hand.

Gibson is working an open guard so Wyatt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Wyatt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gibson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gibson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Wyatt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wyatt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Wyatt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gibson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ground and pound from Wyatt seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Wyatt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Wyatt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gibson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wyatt is in Gibson 's guard.
Wyatt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gibson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wyatt gets to his feet. Gibson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Wyatt throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gibson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wyatt is in Gibson 's guard.
Wyatt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gibson can do to turn this around?

Wyatt fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gibson to the ground. Wyatt is now in Gibson 's guard.

Wyatt closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gibson 's guard.
Gibson wants to get back to his feet but Wyatt passes into half guard.

Gibson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wyatt dives into side control.

Wyatt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gibson to his feet.
Gibson avoids a kick to the body.
Wyatt tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gibson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Wyatt.
Spike Gibson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Wyatt.
Gibson tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

And that's the end of the fight!
Spike Gibson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wyatt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
