PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scott Keene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Franklin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tron Cat- Tyler, The Creator. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Keene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Franklin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Franklin is defended easily by Keene.
It looked like Keene wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Keene uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Franklin.
Franklin darts in looking for a takedown but Keene gets double underhooks and turns Franklin into the cage.
A little feinted left hand from Keene on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Franklin tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Keene cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Keene moves out of range as Franklin strikes.
Keene throwing a counter right hand but Franklin manages to avoid it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

A jab from Franklin does it's job there.
Franklin misses with a left hand
and Keene counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Scott Keene is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Franklin throws a sloppy body shot
and Keene counters with a straight right hand.
Franklin is looking to clinch.
We've been told by Keene's head coaches at Rusterman's that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Franklin gets a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice left hand lands by Keene.


Franklin is rocked!

Keene manages to break the clinch.
Franklin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Keene is looking to counter punch.

Franklin feints and as Keene raises his hands in defense, Franklin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Keene utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Franklin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Keene works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Franklin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Keene is keeping the position for now.
Keene wants to sweep but no luck.
Franklin is looking to work some ground and pound but Keene has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Franklin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Keene looking for a sweep. Not yet Keene, not yet.

Franklin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Franklin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Franklin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Keene manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Franklin has Keene in his guard.

Franklin is looking for a triangle here but Keene uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Franklin is trying to get back to half guard.
Franklin sneaks back into half guard.

Keene postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Franklin to stand up.
James Franklin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Franklin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling Keene to counter with a crisp jab.
Franklin is still on wobbly legs! Can Keene finish him?
Scott Keene has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Franklin.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Franklin with a lazy takedown attempt
and Keene scores with a counter punch that sends Franklin to the canvas! Keene smells blood - he's punishing Franklin with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Franklin has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Keene!
A relieved looking Scott Keene thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
