The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smarks is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tessier sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Tessier looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tessier lands a nice shot to the body.
Smarks showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Tessier.
Smarks jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Tessier throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smarks.
Tessier will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smarks avoids a kick to the body.
Tessier bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Smarks's head.
Smarks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tessier avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tessier is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smarks.

Smarks shoots for a takedown but Tessier saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Tessier pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Smarks back to the cage. Tessier follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Oh Smarks is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tessier finds Smarks's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Smarks flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Tessier lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Smarks will be OK.
