PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guillermo Ashley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rohgs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Guillermo Ashley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Rohgs!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ashley clinches.
Ashley putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Rohgs in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Rohgs has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ashley is trying to keep an underhook but Rohgs manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ashley is trying to stand back up but Rohgs is controlling him
Rohgs looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Rohgs wants to take a breather but Ashley is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rohgs throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ashley wants to get back to his feet.
Rohgs is pressing down on Ashley's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ashley is holding on for now.
Ashley is trying to stand up here but Rohgs is controlling him well.

Ashley wants to get back to full guard.
Ashley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rohgs on the ground.
Rohgs wants to take a breather but Ashley is having none of it.
Ashley wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Rohgs drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Rohgs is trying to get an arm triangle but Ashley is defending well.
Rohgs trying to control the action but Ashley is working from the bottom.

Ashley wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Ashley wants to control but Rohgs postures up.
Rohgs has control of an arm but Ashley manages to advance to Rohgs's back!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rohgs avoids the strikes from Ashley.
You can see the frustration on Rohgs's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Rohgs wants to control his opponent's hands but Ashley gets his hands free.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ashley is trying to stick to Rohgs's back but Rohgs is turning into Ashley. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Ashley's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rohgs.

Ashley is adopting a defensive guard.

Rohgs throwing strikes but missing.
Ashley looking for a sweep. Not yet Ashley, not yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ashley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ashley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rohgs trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ashley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rohgs is controlling him.
Ashley trying to keep a closed guard but Rohgs is proving a slippery customer.
Ashley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ashley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rohgs working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joe Rohgs will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Rohgs bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ashley tries to bench press Rohgs off him but Rohgs keeps the position.
The ground and pound from Rohgs seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Rohgs trying to control the action but Ashley is working from the bottom.
Ashley struggling a bit here.

Rohgs looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Ashley tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rohgs controlling from side mount.
Ashley dodges the ground and pound from Rohgs.
Rohgs wants to control but Ashley is keeping him busy.
Ashley keeps Rohgs under control for a moment.
Rohgs creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ashley sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Rohgs tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rohgs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rohgs swings around for an armbar but Ashley sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rohgs's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ashley is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rohgs has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ashley is looking to defend but Rohgs has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ashley! Rohgs pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ashley taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Joe Rohgs!
