Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Rufus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Eric Staal!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rufus is looking to clinch.
Staal throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rufus tries to clinch up.
Staal swats away the attempt to clinch by Rufus.
Staal with the counter takedown but Rufus avoids it easily.
Rufus drops his hands momentarily and Staal takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Rufus throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Staal counters with a stiff right hand.
Staal pushes Rufus away with a front kick.
Rufus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Staal swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Staal let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Staal is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rufus.
Staal throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
As Staal tries to get set, Rufus tries to push him back and clinch up but Staal manages to avoid the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Staal shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Staal ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Staal throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Staal scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Staal keeps the fight on the outside.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Staal closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rufus's guard.
Staal seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Staal's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Staal is in close to Rufus's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Staal advances position into side control!
Rufus is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Staal has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Staal lands an elbow.
Staal is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Rufus's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rufus struggling a bit here.
Rufus on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Staal lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rufus down.
Staal scores with a couple of short elbows.
Rufus is rocked!
Staal landing a few strikes.
Oh Rufus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rufus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Staal on the ground.

Staal cracks Rufus with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Staal immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Rufus is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Staal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eric Staal!
DJ Rufus was interviewed post fight and said 'Oh poo, I'll fix this, you'll see.'.
