The crowd seem to be enjoying Neil's choice of entrance music: Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider. Bill Newton could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to James Neil's chin.

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Neil!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neil throws a lazy head kick

and Newton counters with a nice double leg into side control. Neil won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Newton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Neil keeps working.

Newton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Neil is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Newton's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Newton has control of Neil's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Neil regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Neil is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Newton is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Neil has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Neil!

Newton has momentary wrist control but Neil slips an elbow through the middle.
Neil postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Neil is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neil slips a nice elbow through Newton's hands, connecting with Newton's forehead.
Newton is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at LOD-Guts & Glory Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Neil lands a nice short elbow.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Neil working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Neil lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Newton quite badly. Newton pulls Neil in close trying to recover. Neil postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Newton on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Newton doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Neil!

In his post fight interview, James Neil gave a big smile as he said 'Just hit my music and let's go.'.
