PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lin Shui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piero Paniccia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Piero Paniccia!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Shui.

Paniccia gets tackled into the cage by Shui. Shui maintains the clinch.
Paniccia misses with a short punch on the inside.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Paniccia creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Paniccia tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Shui's elbow.
Shui lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

It looks like Piero Paniccia has been cut.
Paniccia is trying to pull guard but Shui has him pressed against the cage.
Paniccia lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Paniccia struggles to land a body shot inside as Shui controls his hands.
Shui blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shui closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shui is looking to take a break and control but Paniccia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Paniccia takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Shui connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Paniccia some visible discomfort.
Shui takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Paniccia to pass into mount.
Paniccia is bucking up trying to escape but Shui cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Paniccia has hold of Shui's hands but Shui slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Shui is nestled in close to Paniccia, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shui lands a big shot there that rocks Paniccia but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The referee warns Paniccia that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Shui has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Paniccia is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Shui is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Shui postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Paniccia badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Shui around the waist but Shui pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Shui is the winner by TKO! Shui jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lin Shui!
After the fight, Lin Shui was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
