Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Merrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Puncher Sam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Puncher Sam has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugo Merrill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Puncher Sam!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sam throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
As Sam tries to get set, Merrill tries to push him back and clinch up but Sam manages to avoid the attempt.
Merrill shoots in but no luck this time.

and Merrill counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sam is looking to stand back up but Merrill counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Sam.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Merrill connects with a nice short shot to Sam's temple.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Merrill is nestled in close to Sam, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Merrill will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Merrill remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Sam really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Merrill. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
