PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arlon Wind (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salif Karim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Arlon Wind!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Salif Karim!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karim shoots and misses
and Wind counters with a one-two to the body.
Karim shoots in for a double leg but Wind sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Karim with a poor takedown
and Wind counters with an outside leg kick.
Arlon Wind has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Salif Karim.
Karim scores with a nice head shot.


It looks like Arlon Wind has been cut.
Horrible takedown attempt by Karim or perhaps it was just good defense by Wind, which made it look bad.

Wind shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wind was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wind staying calm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Karim is looking for a sweep.
Karim manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wind's best efforts.

Karim looking for subs from the bottom but Wind mounts him!
Karim looks winded!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wind postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Karim looks a forlorn figure.

Karim is wriggling around trying to escape.

Wind has hold of Karim's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Karim manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Wind get's back to his feet.
Salif Karim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wind closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Karim to the mat! Karim manages to get full guard.

Karim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wind gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wind drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wind jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wind controlling from the top position.

Wind is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Karim throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Wind escapes and throws Karim's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Wind lands an elbow.
Wind in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Karim is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wind controls the position from side control.
Karim is looking to regain half guard here but Wind keeps moving and retains side control.
Wind lands a few punches from side control.
Karim tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wind wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Wind wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Karim, who protects the arm well.
Wind remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Karim tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A lull in the action here as Wind stalls from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wind tries to advance to mount but can't.
Wind is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Karim's shoulder. That is not cool.
Wind's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Wind decides to stand back up. Wind steps back and let's Karim get back to his feet.
Karim shoots in looking for a takedown. Wind tries to sprawl out of it but Karim keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wind manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Wind darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wind controlling the action here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arlon Wind dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Arlon Wind's cut.
That's time! Wind's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Left hook, right uppercut from Wind.
Karim with a poor takedown
and Wind counters with a big head kick but Karim shrugs it off.
Karim closes the distance and clinches up with Wind, looking for a takedown. Karim pushes Wind against the cage but Wind circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Wind fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Karim sprawls well initially but Wind persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wind controlling the action here.
Wind knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karim on the ground.
Wind lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Wind keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Karim is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wind is looking to advance position but Karim won't allow it.
Wind drops an elbow to the side of Karim's head.

Karim looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Karim is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wind pulls his head out easily.

Wind is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Karim has managed to free his arm - good work.

Karim actively working from the bottom here.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wind is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Karim can do to turn this around?
Wind has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Karim is looking to improve his position.
Wind keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Karim has hold of Wind's hands but Wind slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Wind is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karim doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wind.
Wind is taking a breather. Karim says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wind is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Karim is just riding it out for now. Wind eventually gives up the hold.

Karim is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Wind connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Karim some visible discomfort.

Karim throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Wind controls the position.
Wind tries to move to mount but Karim blocks the move with his legs.

Wind is trying to get an arm triangle but Karim is defending well.
Karim is looking for a sweep.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wind cracks Karim with a big right hand but Karim just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Wind is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Karim is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wind content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Wind closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Karim drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wind pulls his leg out and moves away.

Karim feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Wind can't keep his opponent in guard - Karim advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Karim has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Wind defend it? Karim steps over the head and cranks it - Wind is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Karim!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Salif Karim!
