PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Renato Palma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Crawley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Crawley's choice of entrance music: Egypt Central - Taking You Down . Paul Crawley is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renato Palma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paul Crawley!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palma changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crawley tries to avoid it but Palma manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crawley to the ground. Crawley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Crawley clinches.
Palma is trying to pull guard but Crawley turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Crawley lands a left hand.
Crawley lands a right hand that snaps the head of Palma backwards.
Crawley lands an uppercut.
A short uppercut from Crawley.
Crawley just leaning against Palma, taking a breather.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Crawley.
Crawley lands a hook that snaps the head of Palma backwards.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Crawley.
Palma is working for takedown but Crawley is calmly controlling the position for now.

Crawley throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Crawley tries to work over Palma's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Palma drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Crawley gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Crawley manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Palma prevents Crawley from standing back up.

Crawley avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Palma.
Crawley wants to get back to his feet.

Palma is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Crawley is just riding it out for now. Palma eventually gives up the hold.
Crawley is trying to stand.

Palma is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Crawley defends it well.
Crawley won't allow Palma to pass to mount.

Crawley is trying to stand back up but Palma is controlling him

Crawley has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Palma is on him like a limpet, forcing Crawley back against the cage.
Crawley lands a nice uppercut.
Crawley lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Palma.
Crawley doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Palma wants a takedown.
Crawley lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Crawley misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Crawley tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Palma's elbow.
Crawley scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Crawley lands with a short punch from the clinch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crawley tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Palma is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Crawley gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Palma's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Crawley lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Palma changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Crawley fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Palma on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Crawley connects with a jab.
Palma misses with a takedown attempt - Crawley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Crawley dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Palma shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Crawley counters with a series of strikes. Palma will be more careful next time no doubt.
Palma gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Crawley counters with a left to the body.
Crawley lands a really nice looking cross but Palma seems unphased.
Crawley fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Crawley. No joy for Palma on that attempt.
Crawley is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Palma with a body shot.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato Palma. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palma tries for a takedown but Crawley circles away easily
and Crawley makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Palma shoots for a double leg takedown but Crawley sprawls well. He's pushed Palma's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Crawley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Crawley throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Palma on the side of the head.


Palma is rocked!
Crawley connects with a body shot.
Oh Palma is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Palma misses with an uppercut
and Crawley counters with a big right hand! Oh Palma is in trouble here! Crawley follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Crawley!
During a confident post fight interview, Paul Crawley thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
