Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Edgar Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edgar Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Joe!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves cracks a nice hook into Joe's ribs.
Joe has a takedown stuffed.

Alves feints and as Joe raises his hands in defense, Alves changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joe on the ground.
Alves loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Joe looking for a sweep. Not yet Joe, not yet.
Alves throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Joe wants to sweep but no luck.

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alves shoots in and drives through. Joe sprawls well.
And Joe tries to counter it with a takedown but Alves pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Joe connects with a body shot that sends Alves's belly button to the back.

Alves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Alves wants to work for an arm triangle but Joe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Joe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Joe is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Alves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Joe manages to get himself to full guard.

That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Alves tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Joe was well out of range. Poor timing from Alves.

Alves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Joe sprawls well initially but Alves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Alves landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Joe wants to get back to full guard.
Joe is looking to control Alves's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Joe avoid being mounted?
Alves winds up and cracks Joe with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Alves is keen to just control but Joe is a slippery customer.
Alves is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Joe can do to turn this around?

Edgar Alves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Joe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alves's guard.

Alves pulls Joe in close to his closed guard and prevents Joe from doing any damage or advancing position.

Joe lands a couple of elbows.
Alves is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Joe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alves works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Joe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alves tries to avoid it but Joe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alves to the ground. Alves escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Alves throws a body punch but Joe moves out of range.
Joe looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Joe dives in for a single leg takedown but Alves sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Joe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Alves defends well and Joe ends up having to push Alves into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Alves is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Edgar Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Joe.

Alves shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joe's guard.

Alves wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Joe tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Alves swivels and escapes.
Alves checks the leg kick nicely there.
Joe slaps away a takedown attempt from Alves, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Joe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alves attempts a counter takedown but Joe avoids it well and moves away.
Alves shoots in and drives through. Joe sprawls well.
Joe looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alves is fending him off so far but Joe persists. Nope, Alves circles away and we're back to standing.
Edgar Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Joe.
Horrible takedown attempt by Joe or perhaps it was just good defense by Alves, which made it look bad.

Joe leaves Alves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alves slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alves working over Joe with some ground and pound. Joe looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alves lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Alves is pressing down on Joe's thigh, looking to free his foot. Joe is holding on for now.
Joe wants to control but Alves is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well Alves has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
