PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between DJ Rufus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elof Jurgs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jurgs is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Swords of thy Elf. Elof Jurgs is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Elof Jurgs!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rufus wants to clinch up but Jurgs keeps it at a distance.
A head kick misses from Jurgs.
Rufus half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Jurgs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rufus was covering up waiting for the punch and Jurgs finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jurgs is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We've been hearing good reports from Rufus's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

My spies in Blackstar Striking Academy inform me that Jurgs has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Rufus has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Jurgs is trying to keep an underhook but Rufus manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Jurgs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rufus's head.
Rufus wants to improve his position but Jurgs is controlling well.

Rufus closes the distance and pushes Jurgs back into the cage.

Rufus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jurgs's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to DJ Rufus.
I think Rufus has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
