Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaice Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owens comes to the cage accompanied by Thunderstruck by AC/DC. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joseph Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kaice Gunn!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Gunn.

Gunn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gunn stands up and beckons Owens to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gunn moves into range and clinches up with Owens.
Gunn crunches a lovely knee into Owens's ribcage.

Gunn lands a takedown into guard.

Gunn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gunn gets to his feet - Owens follows without any prompting.

Gunn clinches.

Gunn wants the takedown. Owens is fighting it off but Gunn persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Owens's guard against the cage.
Gunn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Gunn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gunn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Let's hope that Gunn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Owens is working an open guard so Gunn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Owens shoots for a double leg takedown but Gunn sprawls well. He's pushed Owens's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gunn throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Owens tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gunn is in Owens's guard.
Gunn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gunn is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Owens can't keep his opponent in guard - Gunn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Gunn decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Gunn throws a quick inside leg kick.

Owens gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gunn to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gunn gets to his feet. Owens looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Gunn counters with a low kick, right behind Owens 's knee.

Gunn moves into range and clinches up with Owens.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaice Gunn dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gunn scores with a jab. Owens acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Gunn drives through with a takedown into Owens's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Gunn connects with a couple of short punches.
Kaice Gunn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gunn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Owens is wriggling around but Gunn manages to pass to half guard.
Gunn is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gunn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Owens with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunn winds up and cracks Owens with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gunn is nestled in close to Owens, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Gunn wants to pass to mount but Owens is defending the position.

Gunn has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gunn lands a nice short elbow.
Gunn passes the guard and advances to mount!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Owens defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gunn.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Owens is rocked!
Owens can't escape the position.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gunn loads up with a big shot that hurts Owens! He's pulled Gunn in close but Gunn has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Owens survive? More strikes from Gunn and Owens is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Kaice Gunn!
After the fight, Kaice Gunn was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
Joseph Owens spoke after the fight, saying 'I deserve a title shot! NOW!'.
