The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercado scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Vance scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mercado manages to mount him!
Vance is trying desperately to improve position.
Mercado tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mercado looking to control but Vance is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mercado throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vance wants to hold on but Mercado pushes him away.
Mercado is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Vance has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mercado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Vance wants to hold on but Mercado pushes him away.
Mercado throwing strikes here but Vance is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Mercado has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vance wants to control his opponent's hands but Mercado gets his hands free.
Vance rolls, trying to escape but Mercado keeps control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercado working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mercado is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Vance has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mercado gets tackled into the cage by Vance. Vance maintains the clinch.
Vance prevents the takedown attempt.
Vance wants the takedown. Mercado is fighting it off but Vance persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mercado's guard against the cage.
Vance controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mercado is trying to control the position but Vance postures up.

Vance has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mercado is proving hard to escape from.

Vance has control of Mercado's left arm, preventing Mercado from doing any damage.
Mercado loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Tomas Mercado overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vance pushes Mercado off and scrambles back to his feet.
Vance throws a leg kick but Mercado checks it.

Mercado takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mercado instigates a clinch.
Vance gets underhooks to prevent Mercado's takedown attempt.
Mercado tries for a takedown but Vance manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tomas Mercado. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mercado is looking for a takedown.
Mercado tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A short body shot lands from Vance as the two fighters clinch.
Vance breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mercado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vance has closed the distance and engaged Mercado in a clinch.
Mercado has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vance after a bit of a struggle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mercado can't get the takedown.
Vance gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mercado.
Vance is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vance gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mercado regains guard.
Vance decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mercado, up you get!
Vance throws a head kick that misses.
Mercado is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Vance closes the distance and pushes Mercado back into the cage.
Mercado breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vance lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Vance.

Vance gets a takedown into half guard.
Mercado is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vance takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Oh Mercado is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Vance closes the distance looking for a takedown. Mercado stuffs it but Vance still has hold of him. Vance picks Mercado up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Vance slams Mercado to the floor and that's really hurt Mercado - he doesn't know where he is! Vance throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
