PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mingi Tyyp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Albert Hoffman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mingi Tyyp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Albert Hoffman !
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyyp tries to land a body kick

and Hoffman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tyyp's guard.
Tyyp looking for a sweep. Not yet Tyyp, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoffman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tyyp works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hoffman is pushing down on Tyyp's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tyyp is fighting to maintain full guard but Hoffman has managed to sneak the leg through.
Tyyp tries to roll over but Hoffman keeps him under control.

Hoffman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tyyp sees it coming and defends easily.
Hoffman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tyyp with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tyyp has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Hoffman is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Tyyp still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Tyyp has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Hoffman has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Hoffman wants to control but Tyyp postures up.
Tyyp cracks Hoffman with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Hoffman tries to buck Tyyp off but Tyyp is having none of it.

Tyyp connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hoffman some visible discomfort.

Tyyp swings around for an armbar but Hoffman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Tyyp's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoffman tries to free his leg and advance position but Tyyp is retaining full guard.

Hoffman landing with the ground and pound.

Tyyp is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hoffman wants to pass the guard but Tyyp is keeping the position.
Tyyp is pulling down on Hoffman 's head. It's preventing any offense from Hoffman , at least for the moment.
Tyyp is trying to keep Hoffman in close.
Hoffman throws a strike but Tyyp rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hoffman looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Tyyp passes into half guard.

Hoffman is not content to let Tyyp control the position.

Tyyp is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hoffman sees it coming and defends easily.
Tyyp will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Tyyp is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hoffman defends it well.

The fighters are battling for position here. Hoffman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Hoffman throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Tyyp lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Tyyp with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Tyyp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hoffman 's head.
Tyyp distracts Hoffman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Tyyp avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tyyp trying to control but Hoffman is working from the bottom.
Hoffman wants to sweep but no luck.
Tyyp chips away with some ground and pound.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mingi Tyyp will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Tyyp pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tyyp looks for the body kick but Hoffman saw that one coming.
Hoffman blocks a head kick by Tyyp.
Hoffman walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hoffman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tyyp closes the distance and clinches up with Hoffman , looking for a takedown. Tyyp pushes Hoffman against the cage but Hoffman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tyyp throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hoffman feints the counter takedown.

Hoffman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tyyp tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hoffman is in Tyyp's guard.
Tyyp is looking to stand up but Hoffman isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tyyp is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Tyyp wants to improve his position but Hoffman is controlling well.

Hoffman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tyyp swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hoffman is pushing down on Tyyp's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tyyp is fighting to maintain full guard but Hoffman has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hoffman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Hoffman is working for a kimura here but Tyyp manages to reverse the position and he's now in Hoffman 's guard.

Hoffman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tyyp doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tyyp manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Tyyp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hoffman 's head.
Tyyp is working Hoffman over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hoffman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tyyp defends it easily.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tyyp in particular looking to stall.

Hoffman tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Tyyp has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Tyyp breaks from Hoffman 's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Tyyp lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Tyyp is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hoffman has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Hoffman takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tyyp lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mingi Tyyp dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Tyyp shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hoffman as he jumps to the side.

and Hoffman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hoffman .

Hoffman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tyyp is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hoffman , into his guard.

Tyyp lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Hoffman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Tyyp is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hoffman can do to turn this around?
Tyyp cracks Hoffman with a solid left hand.
Tyyp stands up over Hoffman , holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Tyyp has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hoffman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tyyp gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hoffman is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Tyyp rolls with it to try and escape but Hoffman cranks on the arm and Tyyp is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Albert Hoffman !
