PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kraig Macias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Guun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kraig Macias has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kraig Macias!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Guun!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Lou da Vinci and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guun shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Macias napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Guun misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Guun wants to control but Macias is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Macias's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Macias tries to buck Guun off but Guun is having none of it.
Guun wants to stand but Macias is controlling his arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Macias holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Macias is not content to let Guun control the position.
Macias is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Guun is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Guun throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Macias works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Macias is on top in guard.

Macias's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Guun looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Guun throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Guun wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Macias is now in half guard.
Macias controlling the pace.
Guun looks like he's trying to stand up.
Macias wants to stand up but Guun is controlling the position.
Macias lands strikes from half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Macias trying to control the action but Guun is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Macias in particular looking to stall.
Guun flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Macias takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Macias lands with a punch from half guard.
Guun is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Macias looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Guun with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Macias will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Macias tries to stand but can't do so whilst Guun controls his leg.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Macias is thwarting Guun's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Guun closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guun lands in his opponent's guard.
Guun wants to pass the guard but Macias is keeping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Macias is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kraig Macias will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Guun fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Macias sprawls well initially but Guun persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Guun throwing shots but Macias is blocking nicely.

Guun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Macias defends it well.
Macias keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Macias is pressing down on Guun's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Guun must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Macias controls Guun momentarily but Guun frees himself.

Guun stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macias swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Macias has Guun pulled in close to control his posture.

Guun throws a big right hand that misses.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice sprawl there from Guun as Macias shoots in.

Guun feints and as Macias raises his hands in defense, Guun changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Macias manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Guun wants the takedown. Macias is fighting it off but Guun persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Macias's guard against the cage.
Macias is pulling down on Guun's head to control his posture.
Macias's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Macias is on top in guard.

Guun has a closed guard, preventing Macias from standing up.
Macias lands a couple of elbows.
Guun is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Guun is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Macias lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Macias trying to control but Guun is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Guun feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Macias seems keen to control Guun's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Tommy Guun will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Guun closes the distance and clinches.

Guun escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Macias tries to close the distance and clinch up but Guun swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Guun is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Tommy Guun seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Macias gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Guun to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Macias uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Macias changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guun tries to avoid it but Macias manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guun to the ground. Guun escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Macias throws a leg kick but Guun moved away.

Guun darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Macias is not content to let Guun control the position.

Macias is concentrating on defense, preventing Guun from advancing position.
Guun wants to stand but Macias has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Macias moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Macias has control of Guun's left arm, preventing Guun from doing any damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Guun throws a sloppy head kick and Macias moves out of range easily.

Macias clinches up against the cage.

Guun escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Macias throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Guun moves into the clinch.
Macias jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Guun walks away with a smile on his face. Macias gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Macias darts in and clinches Guun up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Macias can't break the clinch.

Guun's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Macias really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Macias misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Guun shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Macias trying to hold on to Guun's head to control him but Guun postures up.
Guun is stalling here. Macias is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Guun seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Macias has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Guun takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guun is trying to escape the position but Macias is controlling the position.
Macias lands a nice forearm strike.
Guun takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Macias has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Macias throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guun's waist but Guun gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Macias off to one side.
Guun feints the counter takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kraig Macias. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Macias is defended easily by Guun.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kraig Macias.
I think Macias has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
