PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charley Buckner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Camby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charley Buckner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Camby!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckner circles away from the clinch attempt.

Camby moves into range and clinches up with Buckner.

Camby breaks the clinch.
Marcus Camby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Camby shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Buckner is trying to defend but Camby finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Buckner has one foot on Camby's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Buckner takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Charley Buckner has been cut.
Buckner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Camby clinches up against the cage.
Camby lands a shoulder strike.

Camby jumps guard.
Camby has Buckner pulled in close to control his posture.

Buckner trying to control but Camby is working from the bottom.
Buckner is looking to work some ground and pound but Camby has wrist control.
Camby looking for a sweep. Not yet Camby, not yet.
Camby pulls Buckner in close to prevent any damage.
Buckner with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Buckner wants to get up but he can't break Camby's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Camby bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Buckner's guard.

Camby is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Buckner stuffs the takedown attempt from Camby. Camby gets slowly back to his feet.
Camby lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Camby tries to clinch but Buckner moves away
and Buckner counters with an inside leg kick.

Camby feints and as Buckner raises his hands in defense, Camby changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Camby looks winded!
Buckner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Buckner perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Buckner lands strikes from half guard.
Camby has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Buckner is working away from the top position though.
Buckner slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Buckner thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Buckner is thwarting Camby's attempts to control the position.
Buckner is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

A close round but Marcus Camby will probably get the nod.

and Buckner counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Buckner.

Buckner jumps guard but Camby stands there with Buckner around his waist. Buckner gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Buckner tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charley Buckner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Camby not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Camby slaps away a takedown attempt from Buckner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Camby tries to counter by closing the distance.

Camby rushes Buckner and presses him up against the cage.

Buckner manages to pull guard.

Buckner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Camby is one step ahead there.
Buckner is looking to stand up but Camby isn't so interested in that idea.

Buckner throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Camby escapes and throws Buckner's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Camby tries to advance to mount but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Camby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Camby shoots in for a takedown but Buckner shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Buckner blocks a head kick by Camby.
Camby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Buckner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Camby somewhat.
Camby takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Camby dives in and scores a takedown into Buckner's guard.

Buckner has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Camby off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Buckner shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Camby makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Camby shoots in looking for a takedown. Buckner tries to sprawl out of it but Camby keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Buckner manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Charley Buckner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Camby.
Camby walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Buckner checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Camby tries for a takedown but Buckner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Camby swats away the attempt to clinch by Buckner.

Buckner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Buckner tries to pull guard but Camby won't allow it.
Buckner tries to break free but Camby pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Buckner has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Camby uses from the top position.

Marcus Camby is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Marcus Camby.
Well Camby has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
