PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clemente Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as James Henry enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clemente Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Henry!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry misses with a series of wild punches.

Henry is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marsh's half guard.
Marsh wants to improve his position but Henry is controlling well.
Marsh has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Henry is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henry thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marsh's head.
Henry controlling the pace.

Henry is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Marsh is just riding it out for now. Henry eventually gives up the hold.

Marsh trying to control but Henry postures up.
Henry thows a huge punch but Marsh dodges it nicely.

Marsh preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Henry wants to free his trapped foot but Marsh is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Henry is still trying to improve position.
Henry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Marsh is trying to maintain the position but Henry is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Henry closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marsh circles away.

Henry closes the distance and clinches.

Henry successfully pulls guard.
Marsh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marsh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Henry preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Marsh with a flurry of punches that miss.

Marsh in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Marsh throwing strikes but missing.
Marsh with a nice head shot there.
Henry avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Marsh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Henry manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Henry is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Henry prevents Marsh from breaking the clinch.

Henry manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Marsh is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Henry pulls Marsh in to control the position.

Henry isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Marsh stacks Henry on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Marsh!
You can see the frustration on Henry's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Henry gets back to half guard.
Henry has hold of Marsh's hands but Marsh slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Henry dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Henry doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Marsh counters with a left and a right that stings Henry.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Henry is looking to control Marsh's arms but Marsh gets an underhook and turns him. Now Henry has his back to the cage.
Marsh is looking for a takedown.
Henry wants to take the fight to the mat but Marsh manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Henry wants a takedown.
Clemente Marsh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Henry.

Marsh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Henry throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Henry shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Marsh defends it nicely.
Marsh throws a big counter combination but Henry scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Marsh instigates a clinch.
Marsh has Henry pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Henry manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Henry is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Henry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
James Henry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marsh keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Marsh went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Marsh fails with an attempt to clinch.
Henry dives in and grabs Marsh's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marsh pushes down on Henry's head and hops out.
Henry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Henry ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Marsh moves away.
Henry fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Henry is breathing heavily.
Henry tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marsh sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Henry somewhat.

and Marsh counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Henry has closed the distance and engaged Marsh in a clinch.

Marsh is trying to break free.
Marsh is looking to take this one to the mat.

Henry breaks the clinch.

Henry clinches up with Marsh and pushes him back against the cage.

Henry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Marsh stuffs the takedown.
It looked like Marsh was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
No luck for Henry with that takedown attempt.

Marsh shoots in and bounces Henry off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Henry pushes Marsh off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Marsh. No joy for Henry on that attempt.
Marsh swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Marsh rushes Henry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Henry fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Marsh wants to take the fight to the mat but Henry manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Marsh has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Henry is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Henry breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Marsh works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Henry has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Marsh off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but James Henry will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Henry stuffs the takedown attempt from Marsh. Marsh gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Henry.
Henry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marsh's waist but Marsh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henry off to one side.

Henry looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marsh is fending him off so far but Henry persists. Nope, Marsh circles away and we're back to standing.
Henry takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Horrible takedown attempt by Henry or perhaps it was just good defense by Marsh, which made it look bad.
As Henry looks to move away, Marsh throws a big counter combo but Henry just gets out of the way.
Clemente Marsh is winning the standup battle so far.

Henry has closed the distance and engaged Marsh in a clinch.
Henry tries to stall but Marsh uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Henry stops a takedown attempt from Marsh.
Marsh is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Henry pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Henry avoids a wild elbow strike from Marsh.

Henry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Henry fails with the takedown.
As Henry tries to get set, Marsh tries to push him back and clinch up but Henry manages to avoid the attempt.

Henry looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Henry clinches.
Henry lands an elbow that stopped Marsh in his tracks for a moment.
Marsh misses with an elbow over the top.
Marsh drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Marsh tries to score a body lock takedown but Henry shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Henry is trying to pull guard but Marsh turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Henry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Henry shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Marsh as he jumps to the side.

Henry misses with a knee to the head.
Marsh has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Henry avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Henry decides to pull guard.
Marsh connects with a couple of short punches.
Marsh loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Marsh accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

James Henry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Henry winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
