PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Van Der Schilt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antero Jose Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Antero Jose Carneiro told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Konstantin Menshow.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Van Der Schilt throws out a loose jab but Carneiro uses good head movement to avoid it.
Van Der Schilt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Carneiro is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Van Der Schilt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Horrible takedown attempt by Van Der Schilt or perhaps it was just good defense by Carneiro, which made it look bad.

Van Der Schilt closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Carneiro's guard.

Carneiro has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Van Der Schilt has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Carneiro is pressed up against the cage. Van Der Schilt has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Carneiro down to the mat. Carneiro avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Carneiro working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
