Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Francisco Holder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Maximilian Drews!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holder moves out of range as Drews throws a body kick.

Drews instigates a clinch.
Holder jumps guard but Drews turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Drews lands a takedown into guard.
Holder will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Drews decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Holder, up you get!

Drews feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Drews is standing up over Holder. Holder looks to escape but Drews dives into side control.


Drews is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Holder has escaped the position, nice work there.

Holder is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Drews is controlling him well.

Drews sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Holder is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Drews tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ground and pound from Drews seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Drews misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Drews throws an elbow but Holder slips to the side and avoids it well.

Drews stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Drews.
Drews is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Holder will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Drews is looking to take a break and control but Holder is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Drews has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Drews remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Drews creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Holder sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Drews is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Drews is looking to pass Holder's guard but actually Holder recovers to full guard.
Drews with a flurry of punches that miss.

Drews stands and steps away. Holder gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Holder breaks from the clinch.

Drews shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Holder's guard.
Drews engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Holder wants to get back to his feet but Drews is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Drews stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Drews tries to clinch there but Holder circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Holder enables Drews to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Holder manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Holder is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Drews stands up and waves to Holder to follow him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Drews rushes Holder and presses him up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maximilian Drews showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Drews clinches up with Holder and pushes him back against the cage.
Holder fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Holder has clasped his hands together around Drews's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Drews parries the strikes from Holder easily there. Holder is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Drews to escape.
Holder throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Drews works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Drews has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Holder is trying to control. Drews wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Drews is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Holder is working an open guard so Drews takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Maximilian Drews is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Drews has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
