Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gaudencio Roman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman misses with a body shot.
Roman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Roman closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage.
Roman tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smith.
Smith has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Roman is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Smith trying to land knees to the body.
Roman misses with a punch to the body.
Roman stops a takedown attempt from Smith.
Smith tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Roman avoids it.
Roman scores with a shoulder strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roman pushes off an throws an elbow but Smith leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Roman gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Smith.
Gaudencio Roman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Smith.

Smith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Smith postures up in Roman's guard and throws a big left but Roman blocks it.
Roman has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Roman is proving hard to escape from.
Roman working a defensive guard but Smith manages to pass into side control anyway.
Roman tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith controlling the position.
Roman tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position.
Roman wants to control but Smith postures up.

Roman is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.

Smith in side control lands a decent elbow.
Smith is putting a hurting on Roman here, landing some big shots from side control.
Smith looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Roman is avoiding damage well.

Roman takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Roman throws a chopping leg kick but Smith manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Roman swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Smith counters with a right hand to the body.

Roman shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Roman trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Roman's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Peter Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith pulls Roman in close to his closed guard and prevents Roman from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Smith has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Roman is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Roman lands a right hand that snaps the head of Smith backwards.

Roman misses with a hook to the ribs.
Roman has Smith pressed against the cage.
Smith prevents a body shot from Roman.

Smith manages to break the clinch.

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Roman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Smith lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Roman's head.

Roman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Roman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Roman keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Roman.
Smith connects with a good right hand that stumbles Roman. Roman circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Smith closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Roman did well to prevent Smith getting side control.

Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Roman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith thows a huge punch but Roman dodges it nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
A quick step to the side and Roman tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Roman throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Roman is looking to score with low kicks.
Smith now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Smith swings for the body but Roman moves out of range.
Smith pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Roman back to the cage. Smith follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Roman blocks a head kick by Smith.
Gaudencio Roman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roman attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Smith lands with a hook. Roman tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Roman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Smith circles away quickly and effectively.
Peter Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Peter Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Roman gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Smith regains guard.
Roman throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Roman's guard. Nice move by Smith!

Roman throws his legs up looking for a submission but Smith uses it to pass to side control.

Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders Roman to his feet.

Smith delivers a nice body kick.

I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
