PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carlinhos Valente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Valente might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to "We Dem Boyz" by Wiz Khalifa. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valente thuds his right hand into Henry's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Henry with a hook.
Henry throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Valente's head.
Valente swings for the body but Henry moves out of range.
Henry throws a series of strikes that have Valente backpedaling.
Henry blocks a jab.
Valente with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Henry to score with a decent uppercut.
A lazy left from Henry finds it's target.
Henry bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Valente's head backwards.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Valente misses with a series of wild punches.
Valente throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've been informed that Henry has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Valente tries to close the distance and clinch up but Henry swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Henry shoots in for a takedown but Valente shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Valente is looking to clinch but Henry is avoiding it.
Henry throws a series of punches but Valente moves out of range.
Valente fires out a quick counter leg kick but Henry just manages to avoid it.

It seemed like Henry was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Henry shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Valente sprawls well. Valente wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Henry gets slowly back to his feet.

Valente is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Henry shoots in looking for a takedown. Valente tries to sprawl out of it but Henry keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Valente manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Henry fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Valente works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Valente misses with a right hand
and Henry counters with a head kick.
Henry goes for a double leg but Valente avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Valente continues to drive forward.

Valente fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Henry manages to avoid it.
Valente scores with a hook to the body. Henry takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Henry does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Valente tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Henry manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Henry throws a solid leg kick but Valente takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Henry.
Henry misses with an uppercut
and Valente counters with a stiff right hand.
Henry takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Henry fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The fighters circle momentarily. Henry darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Valente fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Henry, pushing him back against the cage.
Henry scores with a shoulder strike.
Valente lands a shoulder strike.

Henry pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Henry needs to keep his hands up - Valente had a free shot at his head there.
Henry connects with a jab.

Valente stuffs the takedown attempt from Henry. Henry gets slowly back to his feet.
Valente slaps away a takedown attempt from Henry, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Henry walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Henry ducks under a wild hook from Valente.
Valente takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Valente walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Valente bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Henry's head.
Valente gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Valente staying out of range there.
Valente uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Henry.
A slow jab from Valente misses its intended target.
Valente is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Henry misses with an uppercut
and Valente counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Valente throws a right and a left that both miss.
Henry stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Carlinhos Valente is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Valente throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Henry fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Henry looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Henry will probably get the nod.

Valente tries to clinch up.
Valente throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Valente looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Valente rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Henry counters with a right hand to the body.
Henry misses with a low kick.
Valente walks into a jab.
Valente is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Henry.
Henry cracks Valente with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Henry misses with a head kick.
Valente throws a jab but it's blocked by Henry.

Henry throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Valente tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Henry is in Valente's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Valente is on top in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Valente slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Henry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Valente is looking to advance position but Henry has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Valente is rocked!
Valente tries to lock up and control but Henry gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Oh Valente is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Henry cracks Valente with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Henry unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Valente wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Henry celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

A very excited looking John Henry made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
