PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ace Rob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maatia Supuaga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Supuaga has chosen Wanna Taki Taki as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ace Rob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maatia Supuaga!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Supuaga tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rob swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Supuaga rushes Rob and presses him up against the cage.
Supuaga working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Rob blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Supuaga lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rob or not.

Rob turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rob manages to end up in side control.

Supuaga bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Supuaga tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rob was well out of range. Poor timing from Supuaga.
Rob drops down looking for a counter takedown but Supuaga sprawls and moves away.
Supuaga ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Supuaga ducks under a wild hook from Rob.
Supuaga is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Rob with a body shot.
Rob looks to land a left hand but Supuaga moved out of range nicely.

Supuaga drives through and clinches with Rob against the cage.
Supuaga blocks an uppercut.
Rob's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Supuaga misses with a punch on the inside.
Rob misses with an elbow over the top.

Rob misses with a hook from the clinch.

Supuaga breaks from the clinch.
Rob takes a swing at Supuaga's ribcage but misses.
Supuaga throws a left and a right that both miss

and Rob counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rob.
Supuaga stalling in the clinch but Rob improves position.
Supuaga throws a head punch that misses.
A short left from Supuaga.

Rob breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rob misses with a low kick.

Rob dives in and scores a takedown into Supuaga's guard.
Rob trying to control the position from guard on top but Supuaga is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Supuaga throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rob working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Supuaga's head.

Rob stays in close to Supuaga's body and controls the position.
Supuaga wants to sweep here but Rob controlling him for the moment.
Supuaga utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rob drops back looking for a leg! Supuaga is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Supuaga manages to kick Rob off! Rob jumps back into Supuaga's guard.
Rob has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rob slips nicely into half guard.
Supuaga is refusing to be controlled, as Rob sits in half guard.

Rob is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Supuaga doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rob.

Rob is working for a kimura but Supuaga is defending it quite comfortably.

Supuaga is looking for a sweep. Rob is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rob is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Supuaga is just riding it out for now. Rob eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Supuaga wants to improve his position but Rob is controlling well.
Supuaga keeps trying to improve his position.

Rob is trying to work for a kimura but Supuaga is defending well.
Supuaga wants to get back to his feet.
Rob is trying to control the action in half guard but Supuaga is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Supuaga is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rob scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Maatia Supuaga will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Supuaga ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Maatia Supuaga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Supuaga's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Supuaga tries to clinch but Rob is having none of it.
Rob keeps the fight on the outside.

Rob looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Supuaga tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rob paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rob changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Supuaga wants to clinch but Rob slips to the side

and Rob counters with a single leg into guard. Supuaga didn't expect that.
Supuaga is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Rob dives into side control.

Rob is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Supuaga has escaped the position, nice work there.
Supuaga gets back to half guard.

Supuaga is defending against the submission attempts here by Rob.
Supuaga keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rob is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rob seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Supuaga does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rob is looking for a kimura but Supuaga is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rob to get the leverage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rob wants to pass to mount but Supuaga is defending the position.

Rob is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Supuaga defends it well.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ace Rob will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rob's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Oh Rob is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Supuaga lands a big right hand that drops Rob! The killer instinct kicks in and Supuaga finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Supuaga!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Maatia Supuaga!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Maatia Supuaga waved his t-shirt featuring Blue Moon's logo in front of the cameras.
