PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Bate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taulua Fautanua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bate comes to the cage accompanied by Shot Em'. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyler Bate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Taulua Fautanua!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ron Honeybunn and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bate scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fautanua throws a series of punches but Bate moves out of range.
Fautanua doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bate keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bate swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Fautanua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bate counters with a nice uppercut.
Fautanua misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tyler Bate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Taulua Fautanua.
Fautanua looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fautanua drives through and clinches with Bate against the cage.
Fautanua can't get the takedown.

Bate pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've been told by Bate's head coaches at Eli7e that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bate with a jab.
Bate scores with a nice head shot.
Fautanua takes one to the chin there.
Fautanua takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Fautanua shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bate pinned against the cage. Bate gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fautanua shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bate defends it nicely.
Bate swats away the attempt to clinch by Fautanua.

and Bate cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Taulua Fautanua has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bate wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Fautanua needs to keep his hands up - Bate had a free shot at his head there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fautanua takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Fautanua fails with the takedown
and Bate counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Fautanua looks winded!
Fautanua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bate counters with a stiff right hand.
Bate lands a two punch combo.


Fautanua is rocked!
Bate is looking to wear down Fautanua with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Bate thuds a left hand into Fautanua's body.
Fautanua is still on wobbly legs! Can Bate finish him?
Fautanua closes the distance but Bate moves to the side
and Bate cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fautanua fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bate, pushing him back against the cage.
Fautanua seems to have recovered his senses.

Fautanua's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bate lands a nice shot to the body.
Fautanua fails with the takedown
and Bate cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tyler Bate is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bate thuds a left hand into Fautanua's body.
Bate scores with a hook to the body. Fautanua takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Fautanua shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bate counters with a right hand to the body.
Fautanua on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Bate connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Fautanua throws a combination that misses
and Bate counters with a left right combination that sends Fautanua crashing to the mat - Bate wastes no time in diving on top of him and pounding Fautanua out for a TKO! Devastating finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tyler Bate!
Post fight, Tyler Bate took to the microphone: 'The featherweights have been put on notice. My first fight in the division and I defeat a former champion. Once I get the title shot I rightfully deserve, I will be the champion of this division and I will prove myself to be the best.'.
Taulua Fautanua was interviewed post fight and said 'Losing is always a learning experience. I'll be better. I'll improve for sure!'.
