PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zhao Liang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zhao Liang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlos Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Franklyn Lucas and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Liang napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Liang manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Liang is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sanchez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liang missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Liang knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sanchez on the ground.
Well, if Liang is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sanchez is in trouble now - Liang has advanced to mount!

Sanchez wants to control but Liang is having none of it.

Liang goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sanchez turns into him and now he's in Liang's guard.

Sanchez wants to stand but Liang is controlling his posture from full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sanchez throws a big elbow that misses.

Sanchez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Liang keeps moving.
Liang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sanchez controls the pace.
Liang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sanchez tries to clinch but Liang moves out of range.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Liang as he avoids it easily.
Liang tries to land a front kick but Sanchez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sanchez fails with a takedown attempt.

Liang dives in and scores a takedown into Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Liang gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Zhao Liang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Sanchez.
Liang is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Liang tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sanchez just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sanchez breaks the clinch.
Liang on the wrong end of a nice jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Carlos Sanchez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Liang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Liang breaks from the clinch.
Zhao Liang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sanchez digs a good hook to Liang's body.
Sanchez looks to score with a jab to the body but Liang is just out of range.
Sanchez fails with a takedown attempt.

Liang closes the distance and clinches.
Liang tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sanchez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanchez is trying to pull guard but Liang turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Liang tries to score a body lock takedown but Sanchez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Liang escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Liang.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zhao Liang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Liang shoots in but no luck this time.
Sanchez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Liang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sanchez somewhat.
Liang lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Liang throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And Sanchez tries to counter it with a takedown but Liang pushes his down on his head and steps out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Liang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Sanchez wriggles free and stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sanchez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Liang is looking for a counter combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sanchez throws a half hearted mid kick.
Liang fails with the takedown.
Sanchez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Sanchez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Liang tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Liang looking very determined here, making life difficult for Sanchez.

Sanchez controls the position.
Sanchez keeps control of the position as Liang tries to break free.
Sanchez is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Sanchez lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Sanchez controlling the positon.
Sanchez gets his hands free as Liang looks to control.
Sanchez trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
What can Liang do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Sanchez looking for the choke from the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Liang dives in and scores a takedown into Sanchez's guard.
Liang wants to get up but he can't break Sanchez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Liang is keen to just control but Sanchez is a slippery customer.
Sanchez gets back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez seems keen to control Liang's posture.
Liang tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanchez is retaining full guard.

Sanchez trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liang doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Sanchez is tightening it up a little... Liang has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Liang reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Liang taps out! Nice BJJ there by Sanchez!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Carlos Sanchez!
