PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Truman Mcknight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Sewer Rat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Truman Mcknight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, The Sewer Rat!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcknight shoots in and gets a takedown into Rat's guard.
Mcknight trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Mcknight stands up and waves to Rat to follow him.
Rat swats away the attempt to clinch by Mcknight.

Rat gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mcknight decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Rat, up you get!
Truman Mcknight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcknight shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rat manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mcknight gets to his feet. Rat looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mcknight feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mcknight wants to get up but he can't break Rat's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Rat looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rat is trying to control the position but Mcknight postures up.

Mcknight stands up from Rat's guard - Mcknight perhaps looking for a knockout.

Rat moves into the clinch successfully.

Rat manages to break the clinch.
Mcknight throws an ugly left hook that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Rat swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Mcknight cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Rat throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Mcknight counters with a takedown into side control.

Mcknight decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rat to his feet.
Rat has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rat looks winded!
Rat looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mcknight is fending him off so far but Rat persists. Nope, Mcknight circles away and we're back to standing.

Mcknight closes the distance and pushes Rat back into the cage.
Mcknight is trying to pull guard but Rat turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Rat must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mcknight wants to sweep here but Rat controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcknight is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rat is aware though and is defending well.
Mcknight bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rat's guard.

Rat wants to get back to his feet but Mcknight passes into half guard.

Mcknight is working for a kimura but Rat is defending it quite comfortably.

Mcknight is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rat really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcknight. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mcknight is trying to control. Rat wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Mcknight is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rat defends it well.

Rat is refusing to be controlled, as Mcknight sits in half guard.

Rat ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Mcknight closes the distance and pushes Rat back into the cage.

Mcknight is trying to pull guard but Rat has him pressed against the cage.
Mcknight fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Rat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mcknight defends it nicely.

Mcknight is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mcknight works over Rat with some ground and pound from guard.

Mcknight has taken the fight to the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rat.
Mcknight fails to pull guard.
Mcknight tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rat smiles and moves away.
Mcknight throws a right and a left that Rat avoids nicely.
Rat throws a right hand that Mcknight ducks under and follows up with a left that Mcknight also avoids with ease.
Mcknight tries to counter with a takedown but Rat is quick to defend against it.
Mcknight misses with a lunging right hand
and Rat cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Mcknight stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mcknight wants it to stay on the feet.

Mcknight connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rat. Rat circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rat swats away the attempt to clinch by Mcknight.
Rat is trying to counter with his kicks.

Mcknight clinches with his opponent.
Rat is trying to break the clinch but Mcknight is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcknight tries a body shot but Rat blocks it.
Rat digs a right hand underneath Mcknight's ribcage. Mcknight let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Mcknight fails to pull the fight into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Truman Mcknight dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Truman Mcknight's cut.

Rat fails to land with a series of punches.
Mcknight pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Mcknight misses with a hook
enabling Rat to counter with a crisp jab.

Mcknight looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rat scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mcknight manages to mount him!
Rat tries to hold on but Mcknight pushes him away.

Mcknight stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Mcknight shoots in and bounces Rat off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rat takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mcknight pushing down on Rat's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Mcknight is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Rat is defending against the submission attempts here by Mcknight.
Mcknight working over Rat with some ground and pound. Rat looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Mcknight lands with a punch from half guard.

Mcknight stands up and beckons Rat to join him on the feet.
Mcknight misses with a wild combination.

Mcknight drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Mcknight has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mcknight gets to his feet - Rat follows without any prompting.
The Sewer Rat seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mcknight wants to clinch.
Rat is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Mcknight moves into the clinch successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mcknight tries to pull guard but Rat won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on Rat's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Mcknight decides to pull guard.
Mcknight throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rat wants to control from the top but Mcknight keeps moving.
Mcknight is controlling Rat's posture.
Rat preventing the sweep.
Mcknight has control of Rat's left arm, preventing Rat from doing any damage.
The Sewer Rat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Truman Mcknight is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Truman Mcknight showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mcknight, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
