PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Noble Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyrie James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Noble Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kyrie James!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Henry bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Henry avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Henry is looking to reverse the position.
Henry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Henry's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Henry is looking for a sweep.
Henry takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
James trying to control the action but Henry is working from the bottom.

A lull in the action here as James stalls from top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Henry tries to get back to half guard but can't.

James is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Henry's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Henry keeps working.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Henry explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Henry is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Henry kicks James off and gets back to his feet.

Henry shoots and misses
and James counters with a left to the body.

James moves into range and clinches up with Henry.

James works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
James is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
James wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving.
James postures up in Henry's guard and throws a big left but Henry blocks it.
James stops Henry from standing up.
James looking to sit in guard and control but Henry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Henry has passed into side control.
James is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Henry cracks James with a big right hand but James just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Henry has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
James closes the distance looking to clinch
and Henry counters with a two punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Noble Henry dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Henry throws a head kick that misses.
Henry misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Henry circles away from the clinch attempt
and Henry counters with a series of strikes. James will be more careful next time no doubt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Henry.

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Henry wants to control but James is keeping busy.

Henry has his foot on James's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. James works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
James wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving.
James is fighting to break Henry's control of his arms but Henry is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Henry is looking to sweep but instead, James has passed into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

James wants to pass to mount but Henry is defending the position.
Henry is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, James seems content to control.
Henry is trying to maintain the position but James is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

James misses with an uppercut. Henry saw that one coming.
Henry closes the distance and clinches up with James, looking for a takedown. Henry pushes James against the cage but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by James.

James stands up.

James shoots in and gets a takedown into Henry's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kyrie James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!

Henry tries to clinch up but James circles away and keeps his distance.

James just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromHenry.
Henry shoots in for a double leg but James sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

James feints and as Henry raises his hands in defense, James changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
James's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kyrie James has got the better of the ground game so far.
James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Henry looking for submissions from the bottom but instead James passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Henry has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.
James throwing shots but Henry is blocking nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Henry pushes James off and gets back to his feet.
Henry misses with a head kick.
James fails in his attempt to clinch.
James throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It looked like Henry was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

James shoots in and bounces Henry off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Henry has his feet on James's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

James fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Henry sprawls well initially but James persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
James perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
James winds up and cracks Henry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
James seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Henry does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
James wants to pass the guard but Henry is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henry is trying to get back to full guard.
James wants to take a breather but Henry is having none of it.
James looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Henry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Henry gets back to full guard.
James slips nicely into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. James connects with a nice short shot to Henry's temple.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
James is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
James looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

James is working for a kimura but Henry is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James is looking to advance position but Henry won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kyrie James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
