PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Maiden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz's entrance music is It's dark and hell is hot. A fine choice. Maiden is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Iron Maiden. On his way into the cage it seems that Mike Diaz has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mike Diaz seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddy Maiden!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Diaz checks the leg kick.
Maiden throws a leg kick but Diaz sees it coming and moves out of range.
Diaz looks to land a right hand but Maiden moved out of range.
Maiden throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Diaz has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Bare knuckle Fighters in the buildup to the fight.
Diaz moves out of range of the leg kick from Maiden.
Nice body punch from Diaz.
Diaz misses with a hook. Maiden ducked under it nicely.
Some bone on bone action there as Diaz checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A quick step to the side and Diaz tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
A lazy left from Diaz finds it's target.
Maiden looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Diaz moves out of range of the leg kick from Maiden.
A head kick misses from Maiden.
Diaz takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Diaz looks to land a combination but Maiden avoids it well.
Maiden goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Diaz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Maiden doesn't seem bothered though.
Diaz scores with a sloppy right hand. Maiden should have avoided that one.
Maiden throws a head kick that half lands.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A kick lands to the mid section there for Maiden.

Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Diaz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maiden rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Diaz's guard! Nice work there by Maiden!

Maiden trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diaz throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Maiden escapes and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Maiden thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diaz manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Diaz is staying active underneath Maiden, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Diaz is looking to control Maiden's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?
Maiden content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Maiden wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.

Diaz has his foot on Maiden's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maiden works his way back into a safe position though.

Diaz working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Maiden has passed into half guard!

Maiden is trying to work for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.
We've been informed that Maiden has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Maiden moves into full mount! Diaz won't be happy about that!

Eddy Maiden dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Diaz throws a big shot that misses.

Maiden scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Diaz keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Maiden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Maiden trying to control the action but Diaz is working from the bottom.

Maiden is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Diaz can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Diaz wants to hold on but Maiden pushes him away.
Maiden tries to control but Diaz wriggling away.
Maiden moves to his opponent's back but Diaz bucks him off and ends up in guard. A bit of a disaster there for Maiden.

Diaz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Maiden dives on top into guard.

Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Maiden controls the pace.

Maiden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Diaz looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Maiden looking to sit in guard and control but Diaz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Maiden keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.

Diaz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maiden is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maiden has escaped and now he's on top!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Eddy Maiden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Maiden tries a head kick but it misses.
Diaz dives in for a single leg takedown but Maiden sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Maiden throws a series of punches but Diaz moves out of range.
Diaz thuds his shin into the meat of Maiden's side.
Maiden throws a leg kick
enabling Diaz to counter with a crisp jab.
Maiden throws a head kick that misses.
Maiden misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maiden shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Diaz sprawls well. Diaz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Maiden gets slowly back to his feet.
Maiden throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Diaz lands a jab to Maiden's midsection.

and Diaz counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Maiden thinking.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Diaz, right into the meat.
Maiden throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Diaz feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Maiden throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maiden off to one side.
Mike Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy Maiden.
Maiden takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Diaz moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Diaz cracks Maiden with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Diaz connects with a looping right hand.

Diaz feints and as Maiden raises his hands in defense, Diaz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maiden swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Diaz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diaz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Diaz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Maiden is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diaz, into his guard.

Mike Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Maiden defends well.

Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maiden doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maiden manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Maiden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Diaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maiden's guard.

Maiden looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Maiden is still trying to improve position.
Eddy Maiden is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Diaz trying to control but Maiden is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maiden looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maiden looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maiden!


Maiden tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maiden has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Maiden wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Diaz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Maiden has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
