Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Gerardo Washington!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jinder Mahal!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mahal tries for a takedown but Washington circles away easily
and Washington counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mahal shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Washington sprawls well. Washington wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mahal gets slowly back to his feet.
Mahal gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Washington cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gerardo Washington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jinder Mahal.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mahal shoots for a double leg takedown but Washington sprawls well. He's pushed Mahal's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
As Mahal looks to move away, Washington throws a big counter combo but Mahal just gets out of the way.

A quick step to the side and Washington tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Washington jumps guard but Mahal stands there with Washington around his waist. Washington gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Washington wants a takedown but no success here.
Mahal is working for takedown but Washington is calmly controlling the position for now.

Mahal decides to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Washington is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Washington trying to control the position from guard on top but Mahal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Washington might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Washington thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Washington looking to sit in guard and control but Mahal gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Washington is trying to control the position but Mahal postures up.
Washington is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mahal got a little sloppy there for a moment and Washington has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mahal has managed to get both his arms back between Washington's legs - danger averted.

Mahal is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mahal shoots in but Washington avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Washington was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Mahal shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Washington but Washington pushes him off and we're back to square one.
As Mahal backs away, Washington returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Mahal is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Washington stuffs the takedown attempt from Mahal. Mahal gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Washington was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mahal.
Mahal connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

A little jabbing left from Mahal on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Washington closes the distance and pushes Mahal back into the cage.

Washington is trying to trip Mahal. He has hold of a leg but Mahal is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Washington persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Washington drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Washington jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Washington stands and steps away. Mahal gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Washington is pushing Mahal up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Washington jumps guard but Mahal stands there with Washington around his waist. Washington gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mahal gets through Washington's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Washington is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mahal can do to turn this around?

Washington feints and then cracks Mahal's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mahal down.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Washington, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
