PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacob Miller!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller misses with a two punch combination.
Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
Miller misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Joe.
Miller misses with a few strikes there.
Joe moves out of range of the strikes.

Joe looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Joe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Miller is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Joe throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe trying to advance position but Miller counters by regaining guard.
Joe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Joe trying to control but Miller is working from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Joe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Joe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Miller is looking to control Joe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Miller avoid being mounted?
Joe misses with a head shot. Miller uses the momentum to regain guard.
Joe sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Miller's guard.
Miller avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Joe.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Joe is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Miller is trying to get back to full guard.
Joe throwing shots but Miller is blocking nicely.
Joe lands with a punch from half guard.

Joe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Miller defends it well.
Joe with the ground and pound but Miller uses the opportunity to regain guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Joe has gone for a leg lock! Miller slips out almost immediately though and dives into Joe's guard.

Joe controls Miller momentarily but Miller frees himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Joe looking to control but Miller passes into half guard.
Joe is not content to let Miller control the position.
Joe wants to improve his position but Miller is controlling well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Joe wants to control but Miller is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Joe will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Joe checks the leg kick.
Miller looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Miller throws a series of punches but Joe moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Miller.
Miller keeps Joe at a distance using the push kick.
Miller throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Miller misses the target.
Miller will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Joe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Miller tries to avoid it but Joe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Miller to the ground. Miller escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And Miller tries to counter it with a takedown but Joe pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Jacob Miller is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Miller throws a body shot but no joy.

Joe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Joe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Joe trying to control the action but Miller is working from the bottom.
Joe Joe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Joe is staying tight to Miller's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Miller regains half guard, as Joe was trying to land strikes.
Miller is looking for a sweep. Joe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Joe is thwarting Miller's attempts to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Miller wants to get back to full guard.
Joe is trying to control the action in half guard but Miller is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Miller keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Joe is looking for a kimura here.
Miller trying to control from the bottom.
Joe is just content to waste time from the top position. Miller takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Joe throws an elbow that misses. Miller uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Joe's guard. Nice move by Miller!

Joe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Miller is one step ahead there.
Joe is working hard here to advance position.

Joe throws his legs up looking for a submission but Miller uses it to pass to side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Miller controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Joe tries to improve position but can't.
Miller wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy.
Joe struggling a bit here.
Miller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joe keeps working.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Miller leaves Joe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Joe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Miller moves away.
Miller throws a counter combo.
Miller throws a head kick but Joe moves out of range.
Joe takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Miller pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miller uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Joe.
Miller looks to score with a jab to the body but Joe is just out of range.
A head kick misses from Miller.
Joe shoots in but Miller avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe misses with a straight left.

Miller gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Joe to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Joe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Joe wants to pass the guard but Miller is keeping the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Joe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Miller wants to sweep here but Joe controlling him for the moment.
Miller has control of Joe's left arm, preventing Joe from doing any damage.
Joe is looking to work some ground and pound but Miller has wrist control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Miller keeping moving, preventing Joe from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Joe gets a double leg takedown into Miller's guard.
Joe preventing the sweep.
Joe lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Miller is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Joe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Joe trying to control but Miller is working from the bottom.
Joe's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Joe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Miller trying to control here.
Joe is trying to control. Miller wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Joe is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Joe winds up and cracks Miller with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Joe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Joe.
Joe stands and throws Miller's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Miller is trying to control Joe's posture but Joe avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Joe showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Joe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Joe Joe decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
