Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tom Bowman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, James Dean Rockefeller!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockefeller feints a jab promting Bowman to slip. Rockefeller then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bowman slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Rockefeller leaves Bowman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Rockefeller as Bowman shoots in.
Bowman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rockefeller swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tom Bowman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bowman trying to control the position from guard on top but Rockefeller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bowman is looking to work some ground and pound but Rockefeller has wrist control.
Bowman wants to control from the top but Rockefeller keeps moving.
Bowman passes Rockefeller's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rockefeller is controlling Bowman's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Bowman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rockefeller sees it coming and defends easily.

Rockefeller trying to hold on to Bowman's head to control him but Bowman postures up.

Bowman is working for a kimura but Rockefeller is defending it quite comfortably.
Rockefeller avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bowman.
Rockefeller wants to get back to full guard.
Rockefeller is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rockefeller is looking to escape.
Rockefeller keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rockefeller has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bowman is working away from the top position though.
Rockefeller regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Bowman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rockefeller is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bowman, into his guard.


Bowman has his foot on Rockefeller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rockefeller works his way back into a safe position though.

Bowman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rockefeller defends it easily.
Rockefeller postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rockefeller chips away with some ground and pound.

Bowman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rockefeller postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Rockefeller with a nice head shot there.

Bowman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rockefeller with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bowman trying to keep a closed guard but Rockefeller is proving a slippery customer.
We've been hearing good reports from Bowman's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Oh Bowman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Bowman has an active guard here but Rockefeller has managed to pass into half guard.
Bowman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rockefeller scores with a couple of nice shots.

Rockefeller is nestled in close to Bowman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rockefeller lands a big elbow - Bowman is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Rockefeller!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Dean Rockefeller!

During a confident post fight interview, James Dean Rockefeller thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Tom Bowman had this to say: 'He is a great fighter and tonight he had the better of me and won fair and square.'.
