Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Desmond Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Machete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Desmond Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, The Machete !
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machete gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Machete is trying to control the position but Wallace postures up.
Machete is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wallace throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Machete works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wallace missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Wallace lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wallace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Machete looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wallace puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Machete wants to control but Wallace is keeping busy.
Wallace working over Machete with some ground and pound. Machete looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Machete is trying to escape back to his feet but Wallace uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Machete tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The referee asks Wallace politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Wallace prefers to stall for the moment though.

Wallace thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Machete 's face as Wallace controls the position.

Machete is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Wallace not doing much here.
Machete wants to improve his position but Wallace is controlling well.

Wallace looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wallace perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wallace will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Wallace wants to stand up but Machete has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Machete throws a leg kick that misses.

Machete shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wallace manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Machete looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wallace is fending him off so far but Machete persists. Nope, Wallace circles away and we're back to standing.
Machete fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Machete gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Machete has momentary wrist control but Wallace slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wallace distracts Machete with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wallace postures up and lands a big shot to Machete 's brow.

Machete is trying to keep Wallace in close.
Wallace is stalling in the full guard.
Machete wants to stand up but Wallace is controlling him.
Wallace is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Machete can do to turn this around?
Wallace slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Machete is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Wallace bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wallace is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Machete is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wallace tries to move to mount but Machete blocks the move with his legs.
Wallace really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Machete throws Wallace to one side and escapes!
Machete shoots in looking for a takedown. Wallace tries to sprawl out of it but Machete keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wallace manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Desmond Wallace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of The Machete .
Machete throws a combination that misses
and Wallace counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Machete wants to get back to his feet but Wallace passes into half guard.

Machete tries to roll over but Wallace keeps him under control.
Machete is breathing heavily.

Wallace seems to be looking for submissions.

Machete kicks Wallace off and gets back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Machete changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wallace tries to avoid it but Machete manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wallace to the ground. Wallace escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wallace not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Wallace postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Desmond Wallace overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wallace seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Machete tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Machete is in a bad position with Wallace working for a choke. Machete manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Wallace wants to stand but Machete is controlling the position.
Wallace will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Machete must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wallace is not content to let Machete control the position.
Machete blocks the strikes from Wallace.
Wallace is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wallace moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Wallace keeping moving, preventing Machete from controlling successfully.

Wallace throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Wallace avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Machete tries to clinch up.
The Machete is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Machete is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wallace's half guard.
Machete takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wallace slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wallace wants to get back to his feet but Machete is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Wallace. No joy for Machete on that attempt.
The Machete has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Desmond Wallace is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Wallace shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wallace showed some decent athleticism there.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Desmond Wallace.
Well Wallace has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
