PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight kickboxing rules bout between Doctor Jerome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Real American as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Doctor Jerome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Jones!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones is looking to clinch but Jerome is avoiding it.
It looked like Jerome was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jerome swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jones clips Jerome with a right and a left that makes him do the chicken dance for a couple of seconds. He touched his left hand down on the canvas so the referee steps between the fighters to give Jerome a standing 8 count before we can continue the bout.

Jerome takes the fight into the clinch.
Jerome stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Jerome definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jerome lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the ropes.
Jerome content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch.

Jones smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jerome swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Oh Jerome is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Jerome gets tackled into the ropes by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.
Jerome seems to have got his legs back now.

Jerome's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jerome clinches up against the ropes.

Jones looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Jerome presses Jones against the ropes and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Jerome breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That kick from Jones tenderised Jerome's leg. Jerome is trying to keep his angry face on.

enabling Jerome to counter with a crisp jab.

and Jerome connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.

Jones uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jerome has time to react.

Jones scores with a big combo that sends Jerome crashing to the mat! He's still conscious but the referee has seen enough as Jerome flops around uncontrollably and he's called an end to the fight! Jones jumps onto the ropes and throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Gross.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Jones!
A relieved looking Alex Jones thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
