Shankoli comes into the arena with Ravi Shankar - Om Shiva blaring out of the sound system. Huia comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Poi E - Patea Maori Club kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ravi Shankoli is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huia misses with a straight right.
Shankoli tried to counter with a leg kick but Huia avoided it.

Hone Huia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Huia connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shankoli momentarily.

Shankoli went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Shankoli throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Huia.
Huia shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shankoli as he avoids it easily.
Huia on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Huia fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shankoli, pushing him back against the cage.
Shankoli misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Shankoli works on Huia's body with a couple of short punches.
Shankoli misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shankoli lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Shankoli digs a right hand underneath Huia's ribcage. Huia let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Shankoli pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Shankoli closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Huia! Shankoli dives in looking to finish! Huia is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

I knew that he would be a willing opponent, and he showed heart, but my soul wanted this more! I feel strongly against animal violence, but in this case taking the hammer to the panda wa'.
