PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aoki Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvin Firpo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aoki comes to the cage accompanied by Baka Survivor. Alvin Firpo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aoki Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alvin Firpo!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aoki moves into range and clinches up with Firpo.
Firpo has had enough of the clinch but Aoki keeps him there for the moment.
Aoki wants to take the fight to the mat but Firpo manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Firpo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Aoki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Firpo sprawls well. Firpo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Aoki gets slowly back to his feet.
Firpo misses with a straight left.
Aoki shoots for a double leg takedown but Firpo sprawls well. He's pushed Aoki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aoki Aoki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Firpo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Aoki can pounce on him.

Firpo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Firpo looks to score with a jab to the body but Aoki is just out of range.
Aoki misses with a takedown attempt
and Firpo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
The fighters circling - Firpo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Firpo looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Firpo feints and then cracks Aoki's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Aoki down.

Aoki fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Firpo, pushing him back against the cage.

Firpo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Aoki takes one on the button.

Aoki moves into the clinch successfully.

Firpo breaks from the clinch.
Firpo takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Firpo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A telegraphed right hand from Firpo misses the target.
Aoki attempts a counter takedown but Firpo avoids it well and moves away.
Aoki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Firpo.
Aoki attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Aoki slips a straight right by Firpo.
Firpo stuffs the takedown.
Firpo moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Aoki slips a jab from Firpo.
Aoki is looking to counter the offense by Firpo and move into the clinch.
Firpo might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Nice sprawl there from Firpo as Aoki shoots in.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Firpo! But no joy.
Firpo throws the left hand but Aoki avoids the punch easily.
Aoki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Firpo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Aoki shoots for a takedown but Firpo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Firpo slaps away a takedown attempt from Aoki, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Aoki staying out of range there.
Firpo throws a push kick but Aoki slaps the foot to one side.
Aoki fails with an attempt to clinch.
Firpo scores with a leg kick.
Firpo missing with a left hand there. Aoki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Firpo misses with a double jab.
Firpo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Aoki moves away.

and Aoki counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Aoki wants to control from the top but Firpo keeps moving.

Firpo is trying to push Aoki off with his feet but Aoki grabs hold of one of the legs and drops back looking for a submission! He's cranking on one of Firpo's ankles and Firpo is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaall over!

Aoki Aoki bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
