PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vasilli Drakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Grishin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grishin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Danger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vasilli Drakov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Viktor Grishin!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Eddie Farnsworth and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grishin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Drakov to the ground. Grishin is now in Drakov's guard.
Grishin is looking to work some ground and pound but Drakov has wrist control.

Drakov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Grishin scoring with some ground and pound.
Grishin scoring with punches to the head and body.
Grishin advances to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Grishin lands a nice short elbow.
Grishin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Drakov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grishin pulls his head out easily.
Drakov is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Grishin scores with a couple of nice shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grishin keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Drakov actively working from the bottom here.
Grishin winds up and cracks Drakov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Drakov on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grishin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Grishin drops an elbow to the side of Drakov's head.
Grishin is nestled in close to Drakov, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Drakov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Drakov looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Grishin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Drakov has hold of Grishin's hands but Grishin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Drakov trying to hold on to Grishin's head to control him but Grishin postures up.
Grishin passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Drakov is desperately trying to improve his position but Grishin has a good base and remains in mount.
Drakov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
We've been hearing that Drakov has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Grishin pulls Drakov in close to prevent any damage.
Drakov pushing down on Grishin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Grishin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Grishin wants to get back to his feet.
Drakov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Drakov working the head and body with strikes.
Drakov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Grishin's head.
Drakov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Grishin defending well though.

Grishin manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Drakov keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Drakov lands with a light punch inside.

Drakov has clasped his hands together around Grishin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Grishin dodges the ground and pound from Drakov.
Grishin managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Drakov.
Drakov wants to control but Grishin is keeping him busy.
Grishin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Drakov looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Drakov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Drakov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drakov tries to score with some ground and pound. Grishin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Drakov fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Grishin pushes Drakov away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Drakov gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Drakov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Grishin has escaped the position, nice work there.
Grishin tries to buck Drakov off but Drakov is having none of it.
Drakov is trying to ground and pound but Grishin uses the momentary lack of control by Drakov to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Viktor Grishin dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nice takedown defense from Grishin. No joy for Drakov on that attempt.
Drakov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Grishin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Grishin circles away from the clinch attempt
and Drakov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Drakov forces Grishin back against the cage and clinches.
Drakov has Grishin pressed against the cage.

Grishin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drakov fails in his attempt to clinch.
Grishin lands with a kick to the temple. Drakov shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Vasilli Drakov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grishin misses the jab.
Drakov ducks right into an uppercut from Grishin.
Drakov looks to clinch
and Grishin counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Grishin throws a wild body kick that Drakov sees coming a mile off.
Drakov gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Grishin counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Grishin lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Drakov can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Grishin and Drakov drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Grishin.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Viktor Grishin!
Our winner, Viktor Grishin, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
