Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Man Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Solsakorn Honsawaskan!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitaker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Whitaker showed some decent athleticism there.
Honsawaskan is trying to escape back to his feet but Whitaker uses the scramble to pass into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Honsawaskan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Honsawaskan seems a little lost for a moment, as Whitaker dominates the positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whitaker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Whitaker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Honsawaskan for as long as he can get away with.
Whitaker has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Honsawaskan is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Whitaker yanks on the arm and Honsawaskan is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Whitaker.
