PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brenton Caldwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jairo Valea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valea is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Organ Donor - DJ Shadow. On his way into the cage it seems that Brenton Caldwell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Brenton Caldwell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brenton Caldwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jairo Valea!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Valea misses.
It looked like Caldwell was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Caldwell tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Valea has closed the distance and engaged Caldwell in a clinch.
Caldwell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Caldwell tries to circle away but Valea has him pinned against the cage.
Valea wants a takedown.
Caldwell throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Valea blocks it with crossed arms.

Caldwell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Valea closes this distance looking for a takedown but Caldwell circles away.

Valea looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Caldwell!
Valea is looking to take a break and control but Caldwell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Caldwell can't do much from the bottom here.

Valea goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Caldwell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Valea but great work by Caldwell.
Caldwell is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Caldwell wants to stand but Valea is controlling his arm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Valea manages to get back to half guard.
Caldwell prevents Valea from improving his position.

Caldwell is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Valea is looking for a sweep. Caldwell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Caldwell is trying to control. Valea wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Valea regains full guard. Nicely done.

Valea escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caldwell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Valea had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Caldwell defends it easily.
Caldwell wants to control from the top but Valea keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Valea throws a nice looking combination but Caldwell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Valea has a takedown stuffed.
Caldwell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Brenton Caldwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jairo Valea.
Caldwell tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Valea defends well and Caldwell ends up having to push Valea into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Valea gets a double leg takedown into Caldwell's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Valea wants to control from the top but Caldwell keeps moving.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Valea fails with a takedown attempt.

Valea shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Caldwell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Valea wants to control from the top but Caldwell keeps moving.
Valea works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Caldwell flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Valea decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Valea drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Caldwell wants to sweep but no luck.
Valea wants to control from the top but Caldwell keeps moving.
Valea engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Caldwell is trying to keep Valea in close.

Valea controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Caldwell dodges the punch combination from Valea.
Caldwell moves in looking to clinch but Valea pushes him off.
Valea with the counter takedown but Caldwell avoids it easily.
Valea lands with a kick to the temple. Caldwell shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Valea has closed the distance and engaged Caldwell in a clinch.
Caldwell tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Valea is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Valea pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Valea gets the takedown into side control.
Caldwell tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Caldwell prevents Valea from getting a body triangle.

Valea working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Caldwell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Valea gets his way!

Valea is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Caldwell defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jairo Valea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Valea moves into the clinch.
Caldwell misses with a hook from the clinch.
Caldwell tries a knee to the head but Valea blocks it.
Valea blocking some punches.
Valea is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Caldwell to keep the fight standing.
Caldwell tries to break free but Valea pushes him back against the cage.

Caldwell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Caldwell tries to keep at a distance but Valea has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Valea has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Caldwell regains guard immediately.

Valea drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Caldwell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Valea has Caldwell in his guard.

Valea has a closed guard, preventing Caldwell from standing up.
Valea looking for a sweep. Not yet Valea, not yet.
Jairo Valea has got the better of the ground game so far.
Caldwell is standing up over Valea. Valea looks to escape but Caldwell dives into side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Caldwell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Valea knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Caldwell wants to control but Valea is keeping him busy.
Valea struggling a bit here.
Caldwell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valea keeps working.

Valea is trying to improve his position.
Valea manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Valea wants to sweep but Caldwell has passed to side control!
Caldwell tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Caldwell wants to stand but Valea has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Valea bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Caldwell's guard.

Valea working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Valea trying to control but Caldwell is working from the bottom.
Valea is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jairo Valea.
Well Valea has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Jairo Valea decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
