Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johannes Maanpohja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesper Parnevik!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maanpohja takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Parnevik throws a front kick that sends Maanpohja stumbling back into the cage.

Parnevik rushes Maanpohja and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Parnevik lands a body shot in the clinch.
Maanpohja is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Parnevik gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
The referee calls for Parnevik to work.
Parnevik is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Maanpohja takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

and Parnevik connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

We've been informed that Parnevik has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Parnevik fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Maanpohja shoots in looking for a takedown. Parnevik tries to sprawl out of it but Maanpohja keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Parnevik manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Maanpohja has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 3Band MMA ($500/week) in the buildup to the fight.
A solid leg kick lands there for Parnevik.

Jesper Parnevik is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Parnevik keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Parnevik throws a leg kick which misses Maanpohja's front leg but catches the back leg as Maanpohja tries to avoid it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Parnevik cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Maanpohja shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Parnevik but Parnevik pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Maanpohja is breathing heavily.
Maanpohja shoots in looking for a takedown but Parnevik manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Maanpohja's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Donk. Parnevik catches Maanpohja right on the button with a cross.
Parnevik lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


Maanpohja is rocked!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Maanpohja.
Oh Maanpohja is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Parnevik manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Maanpohja seems to have got his legs back now.
Parnevik wants to get back to full guard.

Maanpohja is working for a submission of some sort.

Maanpohja seems to be looking for submissions.

Maanpohja seems to be working for a kimura but Parnevik defends the submission attempt.
Parnevik trying to control from the bottom.
Parnevik desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Maanpohja looks to land a strike but Parnevik avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Parnevik seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Parnevik is continuing to stall.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Parnevik utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Maanpohja drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Parnevik manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maanpohja has Parnevik in his guard.

Parnevik stays in close to Maanpohja's body and controls the position.
Parnevik must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Parnevik decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesper Parnevik dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Parnevik uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Maanpohja has time to react.
Maanpohja stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Parnevik.
Johannes Maanpohja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parnevik dips to his left and cracks Maanpohja with an uppercut!
Maanpohja blocks a leg kick.
Parnevik feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Maanpohja's calf.
No luck for Maanpohja with that takedown attempt.
Decent striking displayed by Parnevik there.
Parnevik lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Good leg kick by Parnevik there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Parnevik cracks Maanpohja with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Maanpohja tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Parnevik pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Maanpohja is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jesper Parnevik!
Jesper Parnevik decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
