PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Leary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ubungu Mumba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ubungu Mumba was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Leary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ubungu Mumba!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mumba bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Leary doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Leary throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Mumba counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mumba defending well as Leary loads up on a big left hand.
Mumba avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Leary misses with a looping right.
Leary doesn't manage to clinch there - Mumba circles away.
Mumba avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Leary swings widly with a right hand
and Mumba counters with a straight right hand.
Mumba connects with a crisp jab.
Leary bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mumba scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Leary doesn't seem bothered though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Leary is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mumba defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mumba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mumba seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Mumba bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Leary's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ubungu Mumba showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mumba creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Mumba lands with a short shot to the head.
Leary has Mumba pressed against the cage.
Leary misses with a punch on the inside.
Leary is trying to pull guard but Mumba turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Leary tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mumba smiles and moves away.

and Mumba makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mumba throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Leary on the side of the head.
Mumba scores with a crisp jab that stopped Leary in his tracks.

Leary is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Mumba digs a good body shot into Leary's ribs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mumba moves away from the strike by Leary.
Mumba throws out a loose jab but Leary uses good head movement to avoid it.
Leary tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mumba catches Leary with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Mumba is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
A punch lands to the side of Leary 's head but he takes it in his stride.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mumba. Leary does a little dance to reset his feet.
Leary throws a body shot but no joy.
Mumba scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Mumba drops Leary with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Leary looks back up at him and smiles so Mumba waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Leary is rocked!
Leary doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Oh Leary is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mumba scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Leary doesn't seem bothered though.
Mumba drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Leary right on the button. Leary goes down! Mumba follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Mumba gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ubungu Mumba!
After the fight, Ubungu Mumba was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
