PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mats Sundvison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Green's entrance music is Boom Boom. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mats Sundvison!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sundvison lands with a straight right. Green didn't see that one coming.
Sundvison misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Green feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Green is looking to chop away at Sundvison's legs.
Green throws a lazy head kick
and Sundvison counters with a straight right hand.
Sundvison lands with a right hand.
Sundvison circles away from the clinch attempt.

Sundvison tries to keep at a distance but Green has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sundvison breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Green throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Green moves out of range of the strikes.
Green is looking to counter the offense by Sundvison and move into the clinch.
Green shoots in for a takedown but Sundvison shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Green fails in his attempt to clinch.
Sundvison lands with an overhand left.

Sundvison gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sundvison has his feet on Green's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Mats Sundvison seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sundvison throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Sundvison throws a half hearted mid kick.
Green chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Sundvison can pounce on him.
Green tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sundvison closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sundvison breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Green shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sundvison manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Green looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Green seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sundvison for as long as he can get away with.

Green working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sundvison has his hands on Green's head, controlling the position.

Sundvison wants to sweep but no luck.
Green postures up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sundvison utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The fight stays on the outside here - Green looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Green gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Sundvison breaks the clinch.
Nice straight punches there by Sundvison. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Sundvison.

Green drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Sundvison has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Green off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Sundvison throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Green stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Green misses with a takedown attempt - Sundvison sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A nice side step and Sundvison releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Green shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sundvison but Sundvison pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Green. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sundvison misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Green.
Green doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sundvison misses with a body kick.
Green is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Sundvison.

Green looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sundvison!

Sundvison sneaks out the side door and pushes Green away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Sundvison clinches up with Green and pushes him back against the cage.

Sundvison breaks the clinch.
Mats Sundvison is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sundvison lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Green shoots in for a double leg but Sundvison sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sundvison throws a counter combo.

Green decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Sundvison tries to kick Green off in order to stand up. Green Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Sundvison manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mats Sundvison dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Green shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sundvison looking to control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Green sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Sundvison is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sundvison wants to stand up but Green is controlling him.
Mats Sundvison has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sundvison pulls Green in to control the position.

Sundvison bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Green's guard.

Green is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sundvison is not content to let Green control the position.
Green stops Sundvison from getting back to his feet.

Sundvison is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sundvison moves into full guard.
Green won't allow Sundvison to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sundvison looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Green in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Green is looking to advance position but Sundvison has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!


Sundvison get's back to his feet.
Sundvison has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Green thuds his shin into the meat of Sundvison's side.
Green closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sundvison circles away.

Green shoots in and bounces Sundvison off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sundvison pulls Green in close to his closed guard and prevents Green from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sundvison tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Green is looking to stand up but Sundvison won't let him.
Green throwing strikes from guard but Sundvison blocks nicely.

Green is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Green throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Green scores with a jab to the body.
Sundvison circles away from the clinch attempt.

Green closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sundvison manages to break the clinch.
Green shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sundvison as he jumps to the side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sundvison scores with a head kick. Green tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Sundvison fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Green checks it well.
Green changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Green will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Paul Green is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sundvison throws a leg kick that is checked

so Green counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Green wants to pass the guard but Sundvison is keeping the position.
Green missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Green wants to get up but he can't break Sundvison's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Green is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sundvison wants to sweep here but Green controlling him for the moment.

Green trying to control but Sundvison is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Green pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sundvison is keeping the position for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sundvison throws a right hand that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
An inside leg kick from Sundvison misses.
Green uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sundvison.
Green is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sundvison sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sundvison throws a right and a left that both miss.
Green is looking for a counter combo.

Sundvison's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Sundvison duly obliges.

Green shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sundvison's guard.

Sundvison pushes Green off and scrambles back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Green slips under a jab.

Green is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sundvison's half guard.
Sundvison is refusing to be controlled, as Green sits in half guard.

Green looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Green seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Green tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sundvison knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sundvison gets full guard.
Green trying to control but Sundvison is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sundvison is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Green is controlling him.
Green is looking to pass into half guard but Sundvison pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Sundvison is in guard.

Green is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Sundvison gets to his feet - Green follows without any prompting.
Green shoots for a takedown but Sundvison saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A nice inside leg kick there by Green. That's going to slow Sundvison down.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Green tries to bum rush Sundvison with a series of wild strikes but Sundvison uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Green moves out of range of the leg kick from Sundvison.
Sundvison scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mats Sundvison comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sundvison has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Mats Sundvison thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Paul Green stepped up to the mic, saying 'This blows!!!!!'.
